Mojoman Posted January 24, 2014 Share And as mentioned, with winter only a few months away maybe see if you can get a good price on some leg and arm warmers or cold riding gear etc before the bike shops hike up prices.
geemobee Posted January 24, 2014 Share Thanks for the info! Is R15k enough? What should I budget for all these various items?
Mojoman Posted January 24, 2014 Share Thanks for the info! Is R15k enough? What should I budget for all these various items? My advice is go to your bike shop and also check out the online stores as well (as well as talk to friends who also cycle), some things you may get cheaper at the shop, others online. But do your homework and don't go to the bike shop with a wad of money and no real idea of what you should be paying for things!
geemobee Posted January 24, 2014 Share Does that include the bike? Yes

geemobee Posted January 24, 2014 Share How much are you going to spend on the bike? I was under the impression that I could get away with R10k on the bike and then R5k on the extra important items.
rock Posted January 24, 2014 Share you almost need to work backwards and price the kit (shoes, shorts, tools stc.) and then see what left for the bike and then see whether you like what you can get for that money and maybe even go the 'used' route......ive spent more in recent years on shoes/clothing, helmets etc, its amazing how much more comfortable it can make you rather than an upgraded rear derailleur on your bike.....to use a silly example. Good point and I can see how the extras can account for large part of the budget. I am talking this approach so that I dont throw all the funds into a bike and then get stuck without funds to get some of the other important items. geemobee Posted January 24, 2014 Share If you will be able to live with it buy a second hand bike. Your money will go much further. R10k should get you something okish. Then take the rest of the money you have go to the website EVO BIKES and check out their goodies. You should be sorted by Monday. Monday is too far.... just kidding, there is actually no rush and I prefer doing my homework first. I would like a new bike, should I bump overall budget to R20k then?
