I want to fit this specific tyre on rear wheel for the weekend's (fun) activities at Dunblane.....apparently a good chance for big balls and mud. The thread looks like a tractor tyre.....huge difference to the RR that's currently on.

Who has used this tyre before and what is your impression of it?

Thanks

At the correct low pressure, they grip very nicely in the corners.

Nevegals grip well in the wet and shed mud well. I would put it up front though, because that is where you want the greatest grip. A back wheel slipping and sliding will make you go "oops" but a front wheel sliding out will cause you to go head first into the same mud. (Nevegals is what I used to ride on all Cape winter long.)

Heard about it, read about it and learned the OTB way about it.....front tyre is ALWAYS sorted out first. Also run front at a slightly lower pressure.

This tyre on the rear is purely for fun....and experimentation....and just maybe for chucking mud......;-)

Thanks for the info

its grip is VERY pressure related and associated sweetspot is in a very narrow band. I hated mine until i pulled finger and got to work trying different pressures till the grip was a maximum for my way of riding. When it works, it works very very well. Slightly too much pressure, and it's a squirrelly mofo. Too low a pressure (not talking going flat here), and the sidewalls fold turning the bike into a hovercraft, and we know how well a hovercraft corners.. meh..

Nobby Nic, Pacestar (yes, i said it!)EVO snakeskin is way better. More robust sidewalls, TLR, and much more forgiving in terms of pressure and maximum grip, ie, the range of pressures for excellent grip is wider.

Agreed, the right pressure is very important for Nevegals.

Fitted.......bugger to get onto ArchEX.

Anyone up for an explanation on the following?:

Racing Ralph (Evo, TLR, Snakeskin) 29x2.25 (57-622) - outside bead to outside bead diameter =53mm (52.8)

KENDA Nevegal (DTC) 29x2.20 (55-622) - outside bead to outside bead diameter = 59mm (58.8)

More thread on track/riding surface with correct pressure......or not?

I thought I was riding in mud when I tried the "Nevego" tyre, but I was riding on dry hardpack. It is a seriously slow rolling tyre. I also tried the Kenda Excavator which I found to be a similar grippy but better rolling than the Nevego.

my friends always mock me for my nevegul that's on my Epic 29r.... it does weight half a ton... it does keep a crap load of mud (experienced this at sabie last weekend , especially clay / turf) and it looks like it supposed to be on a downhill bike and not a xc ;)

But....

It last for ever , never get punctures , grips like a mofo downhill and found it for cheap cheap ! :D

will buy one again !

;) check out the kenda karma for the back wheel.... ;)

In that crazy rolling resistance test by the Germans the scale goes from 0-50. Sub 20 is super fast, 20-30 is fast, 30-40 is medium, 40-50 is very slow. The Nevego was the only tyre that scored a "out-of scale" result, and they tested almost all tyres.

Horrible old tech.

Rather do Nobby Nick. ( although it won't last as long)

Low tpi count, heavy, very high roll resistance, ' non-linear' grip and loss of grip behaviour.

Hardyness is really not the only consideration, depends on your application, riding style etc.

Steel wagon wheels are also puncture proof and last long.
