Cycling noob - weight loss question

Lost 10 kg's in 3 months, no more starch, cutting down on sugar. When you go for dinner have a steak and salad. Started again cycling after doing nothing for 15 years. If we are lucky we can do 100km a week with my work schedule, more to the 70km's as an average. Having a ball, and something I am doing with my son is the best thing ever!!!

Iv cut out carbs almost completely asides from saturday night before long rides, eat mainly steak and veg for dinners, and small healthy snack continously through out the day! I'm riding about 200km a week,iv dropped from a 105kg in november to 89 kg to date and still going.also I'm *** fast on the bike now and me mates can't catch me! Always a perk! Basicly an atkins type eating plan and loving it! (Love meat!)

AT forty your body gets the idea it must PUNISH you for EVERYTHING you did to it over the previous 40 years. So ALL of the beer you drank at varisty suddenly comes to visit to keep any alcohol you have drunk in the last 24 hrs company. Also ALL the sugary, fatty foods you sneakily ate, visit you for the weekend and settles in on your butt and gut, and then never leave. No matter how much you sleep, your body reminds you of those "all nighter" rave parties you had in your 20's. If you even thought drugs, well now is the time for the mother of all pay backs....

Also all those small injuries you ignored, well now they want urgent attention and will attack you every morning as you rise. If you did not stretch then your muscle become like violin strings.

In a nutshell your body tells you IT IS NOW PAY BACK TIME..........

Only solution is to balance input to output, reduce artificial rubbish, turn off your hearing aid and join crossfit..........

Avoid starch, sugar - have a big breakfast and what you would have had for dinner as lunch. Keep cycling as much as you do and watch those pounds peel off. If you get really hungry at night, have a future life shake but not after 19h00 - but avoid if possible. I lost 15kg's this way.

I don't buy any sugary drinks, avoid alcohol and have limited fast food, for the rest I have not change my diet. I have started riding in Jan last year dropped 13Kg. Did 2800Km and spin 4 days a week. My race times have also improved by more than 30min for a 100Km race.

I still eat what I want, but I don't overdo it.. I lost 22kg and did 6800km last year. Diets aren't the same for every person. Training and eating less helps a lot!!

Txs for all the advice, lots of food for thought (weak, but unintended... :)).

I've already implemented some of your advice, lunch consisted of biltong and cream cheese.

For now I'm cutting sugar, avoiding carbs as much as possible, drinking plenty of water...and of course cycling as much as I can.

Will probably also go see a dietician, can just as well go balls to the wall now that I'm more focused.

Appreciate your comments.

Dietician is good as they will explain what food you should put together etc and give you a nice eating plan suited to you. I just find it extremely difficult to follow as I would have to cook 2 different meals every night.

Fairly happy with progress so far - I'm avoiding being too pedantic about it. BTW it is a real biatch to find proper low carb food when in a hurry for something to snack.

I've almost completely cut out starch and probably 90% of wheat and sugar. Have avoided take aways thus far. Together with my exercise programme I am feeling really good. Lost about 2.5kg so far, although it has almost become a secondary goal to just eating more sensible and being more healthy in general.

+ 1 on the dietician.

I lost about 14 kg's in the first year and a half of cycling by doing little more than watching the calories but it stopped there and I struggled to get my body fat down below 20%.

I went to see a dietician for Discovery Vitality points and because my girlfriend was seeing the same dietician it made sense to consult because we eat together. I ended up doing a few sessions and asked her all the stuff I wanted to know about race nutrition as well as general diet advice. Now I have a good knowledge of when and what to eat depending on my level of training, My weight is going down cosistantly now and my riding has improved no end. I have lost another 7 kg's in 4 months and my body fat is down to 16%. Soon I will have to change my diet to avoid being too light which is a weird concept for me.
