Well for the progression of the sport. If we going to be doing regionals then we have to comply to the rules set out by CSA. But saying this I am not 100% sure if all the Rules and regs have been set up.

Then what I saw this yr happen in the Downhill Nationals. Is that the Jnr had to race with the Elite Men. Which did not go down very well with the kids and the parent at the first race. And in doing so some kids never raced another national this year. Also what one finds is that some people will then push them selves so hard and go out there comfort zone and try beat guys who are much older and more experienced and they get hurt. This is not what you want because then the sport will not progress. Like wise and I will use my self as a example and there was a few older guys racing on Sat. I am 43 going on 44 I would like to race with guys my age But if there is no class given to us we will do a race or two for the fun and then not do it again. Because we don't enjoy racing against kids Half our age all the time. Just as you wouldn't like to race against men even if there was enough Girls for a class.

Age categories depend on numbers too Sean ....

If there are less than 5 riders then you cant have a class - so that class is amalgamted into the next available class ...

Eg

Sprog becomes Sub Junior

Sub Junior becomes Youth etc

Vet becomes Sub Vet

Master becomes Vet

So its up to the discretion of the organiser

Oh and then

Junior Ladies

Elite Ladies

Master Ladies

Yip sorry forgot to mention that.

This is exactly what i mentioned ... if the numbers arent there - the class is amalgamated with the class above - culminating in Elite

So juniors move up to Elite

Sub vets move down to Elite ...

etc etc

Classes are better IF you have the numbers to support it

Unless the average #enduro rider is different to the rest of the cycling population a gentle reminder can do no harm

Not ONE piece of litter found during during clean up...so thanks for being rad, racers!

Nige there were enough Kids for a Jnr class. SA DH Fell under the Category 2 UCI rule. And the UCI doesn't have a JNR class in category 2.That was only for the Cup series. When it came to SA Champs then they had there own class.

Yes you are correct more number more fun. That's also why I think its good to have Classes to keep it interesting so you attract more peeps.

Surely the Sub Vets would move up to Vets?

I actually woudn't mind if there wasn't a girls class because I do not do it 'to race' and be on the podium. For me it is enough that there is one time/results sheet and I can tease the guys I ride with by saying "look out, I am closing the gap on you guys"... When I look at results of races I never look at it in defferent catagories in anyway....but with one time sheet you can surely devide yourself into your age catagory too if you really wish to, or compare yourself to the riders you want to, I dont see how it would have made it more safe on the day to have catagories..?

XCO and DH is already where one can go get ones 'racing serious face on', I hope that Enduro will keep more of the fun factor and less of the serious, I believe that is what will get youngsters into it and keep them there. (I know of a few people that didnt want to come ride because they felt too pressured 'to race'. Youngsters dont like to loose and when you add competition among them and they dont perform they will stay away. If you think about it I am sure you can name a few riders from JHB which now could be said "I wonder why he wasn't there".)

I actually don't see how your ''make catagories'' will change a persons perception of racing. I.o.w would you have gone slower on the day if you knew the people you are racing against (your age catagory) would be slower? I guess I just dont understand that because I havent been in the fortunate situation like you where I was confident that I was the fastest in the field...I am always sure there are many faster than me, but when I finish a run my 1st thought is never "I wonder if I was faster than her", but rather "ag damn, why did I pull the brakes there" or "I wish I took those corners better, maybe knowing the track would have given me that".

Oh dear, I hope CSA and UCI won't get their noses too deep into the #Enduro style too.

As far as I know there is a big difference with the involvement of CSA and UCI in Enduro and not the same rules regarding catagories etc etc imply when comparing DH and Enduro. At this moment there is not Category 2 stuff etc etc due to no world points ranking from UCI. I dont think that can be a reason to have this Jnr class etc in Enduro because there is no points/ranking given per race for a bigger ranking system.

Anyway....all I want to say is...Thug...I am on your tail. You better start pedaling    :P

No ... as the Sub Vets are deemed to be "faster" than the vets as they are younger ... so Vets would move to Sub Vets and Sub Vets to Elite.

This then does not put the older category in a bind having to race against younger (stronger) riders.

I'll draw the diagram so that you can see it

You have a lot of valid point. The end of the day there will always be people who want to race and people who want to have fun. I do believe you going to see that Enduro's becomes a big thing in SA as well. And Europe has shown it. The problem with DH is that some people say its to hectic and XC is not there cup of tea putting them selves in the hurt box for 2hrs. And that's why the Enduro side is the best option.

So that's why I say you have valid points in short. A view form a Racer and a view from a Non Racer.

When you catch me on the trail make sure you shout TRACK very hard. The hearing isn't as good as it use to be. :)

So the red lines show your age progression

Whereas the blue shows how the categories would merge if need be with Elite being the best category,

...

Nige we need a drawing of how it looks when us Vets have a few beers. Because we all become teenagers after a few. :)

Ok, but how do you know the age of people on that one time sheet???
