WernerLouwBosman Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Good morning HubbersThere was a bike-jacking this morning at around 07h00 on the Cycle lane close to Sunset Beach. It happened just past the Engen where the lane narrows to cross the bridge.The events:Guy was cycling alone and passing a ‘pedestrian’ the jacker started at him with a knife.He fought back but let the bike go.We (two of us) were about 70m away from them when the jacker started riding in the road towards us, we moved into the rode.The jacker hesitated and went over the bars. We stopped approaching cars & the first car was security.The jacker jumped of the bike and over the bridge into the vlei heading into the ‘binneland’.The victim’s name is Simon. Iron of a little guy. Got a stab wound of about a cm in his shoulder/neck area.We rode with him to tableview where he stays.He’s okay and he has his bike back.Here is the kicker:He bought his bike Yesterday!!!!Please be vigilant. This is crazy.I won’t be able to respond to this thread as I have to go register for a race now.Be safe.

Capricorn Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 This spot is also the most dangerous for everyone as its not a new construction but rather an existing walkway over the bridge that the bikelane links up with.its super narrow compared to other sections of the actual bike lane, and if anyone bails, whether it be a pedestrian or cyclist, its straight into rather fast moving traffic, except in the afternoon when its practically walking speed traffic. Iirc, there are also no cameras looking up and down this bit of walkway unlike sections of the bikelane up or downstream of this spot. Not sure where the perp was planning to escape to as the quickest way to the likeliest dodge area is past paddocks near montague gardens. Danoon is still bloody far away by any other route. Glad the rider is ok and still has his bike.
