Thanks for all the responses. She ride gatorskins and litterally have had maybe two punctures in the last four years. And normally at the end of the life of the tyre.

She has read the posts and I think it is evident that she has to make a mindshift.

Afterall she did hit a cat eye an this resulted in the blow out. Nothing will withstand that if hit hard enough.

Gatorskins is the beez kneez. Totally reliable.

Two punctures in four years is two to many. A power balance bangle on the handle bars will solve the problem, as long as the hologram isn't empty of power

110 psi ( the recommended pressure)

110 psi ( the recommended pressure)

Who recommended that? And how much does she weigh, and why wont she learn how to replace a tube at the side of the road? Would have cost her 5 minutes, not 45, and what if you'd had an accident or something?

Recommendation, tyre sidewall. Weight, 70, the rest is all good questions...

I find I have the same puncture resistance from gator skins as 4000s, gators just cheaper. Run at 130 or whenever my arms are tired. Punctures I have gotten were from devil thorn from a bit of off road and a wire tore a hole in the other.

I suggest either tyre. I find certain tyres that are a pain more than others. Found that friends schwalbe were pain to change and don't think she would have been able to do it at side of road.

Same. I have had a few tyres that were just a pain to get on and off.

Best ever for ease of use and puncture resistance in my use are Detonators.

Depending on the rims (which shouldn't be a problem) up it to 120psi. The harder the better especially when it comes to punctures

I'd recommend rather buying your wife resilient tyres such as Conti Gatorskins and remember to keep those tyre pressures high which should prevent most pinch flats.

Have you considered a Fosso tube?

They are these funny superlight clear tubes that cost an arm and a leg (about R200 each). They are as tough as nails. The bike shop owner tried to push a thin screw driver through them and it didn't go through. They are not flexible like a normal butyl tube, so they have to be seated perfectly when installed.

They are pretty scarce and other than that one time, I haven't seen or heard of anyone one riding them. Perhaps you have better luck in you end of the world finding them.
