Drakensberg Grand Traverse - ULTIMATE RECORD!

The DGT is the ultimate adventure challenge out there, the redbull attempt by Ryan sandes and Ryno Griesel is the first one where there has been a total running approach instead of a adventure race/hiking methodolgy.

the record is just over 60 hours, that in itself is just ridiculous as it was over 100 hours for quite a while with many attempts failing to better it.

currently they've got about 35kms to go, clock is at 37 hours.

they've only slept for half an hour, probably just to justify carrying whatever equipment they have had. I don't think anyone will ever try and beat this, but who knows, the 40hour could be a big barrier to aim for.

here is current(for now) record holder Cobus van Zyl talking about the theoretical limits of this. he's doing safety backup on this attempt.

41h49m to complete 207km, 8197m climbing!

RESPECT!

all at extreme altitude.

Been following this lunatic fringe for years, this is a game changer in terms of weather windows with only one night out!

+1 Shebeen. Andrew is a legend, respect! Met him at X-Berg this year. He hinted a few weeks ago he's going to dust off his mountain bike & join me for a ride in the Northern Berg next weekend, can you imagine that engine & strong mind on Freedom Trail?

Hier kom 'n ding!
