Must do events in Gauteng and surrounds

dude.... stuck in Joburg? jeez...

I've heard mountain goats complain about Joburg having so many organised events compared to what they have in the Cape so I'm sure you'll be okay.

After work riding can be a challenge compared to CT since you have more daylight (duh...) and now going to get more challenging moving towards winter BUT nothing we can do about that.

some good suggestions from Hubbers so far!

On that thank you to everyone making some awesome suggestions. The thread has changes a bit from the original intention which was to find the events you guys think are a must do. Seems like most of those are in other provinces but ill definately do a couple of those. As for the training and trails. I've realized that there is no realy good options during the week. (might just invest in a trainer) Weekend rides Ive found quite a few good ones. bit of a drive most of the time but at least a good morning out.

Jozi is awesome (as an ex-Cape Townian)

Apart from the riding (Spruit is very convenient for quick weekly rides & Modderfontein for Wed Night rides) there are lots to see & do. Just venture out to the City, some awesome markets well worth a visit, in fact these are popping up all over lately.

I said it before, Jozi is one of the friendliest places i have ever been ( and i even lived in Dublin for a few years)........untill we get in our cars!

If you're near Norwood Mall, you're only about 15-20 min from Modderfontein. You can ride there till late on Wednesdays. The KIA Over the Moon night race on the first Wednesday of every month is great value and fun.

Ja sorry man I'm not to into doing events so I just ride the trails in and around our fair city. Like others have said if you know where the fun stuff is the spruit is a jol. Any way. Has any one mentioned Kings kloof? Also the Krugersdorp nature reserve has some okay riding. Enjoy your stay.

Hi

I know you specifically asked about events, but let me recommend Hero Adventure Park at a Heia Safari Ranch. Check out their Facebook page.

I really find those trails awesome... And they are continually improving, building on extra sections etc.

You can get decent mileage(30km+) and some really fun technical stuff (not ego breaking) for 30 bucks.

They do host mtb and other adventure events on a regular basis, including the Jozi Night series.

I've done quite a few trails (northern farms, modderfontein, spruit, Van Gaalens, rietvlei, Kings Kloof, Cascades, Clearwater trails, Avianto, buffelspoort) and 'I put it to you' in my opinion that Hero is serious good fun and value 30 to 45 mins away from JHB.

I am riding solo at the moment (pregnant wife), so if you want to ride with me, give me a PM. I will definitely try to make a trip out there this weekend.
