The Nomad is looking like a good option - ONLY 1 Issue - the 65 deg head angle ... IMO it may be too slack for general SA trails ... we dont have Alpine elevation unless we go to Lesotho ...

Even in Karkloof it is not warranted ... I mean - My Fury had a 65 deg headangle and that was my DH rig ...

SO the Bronson - 150mm travel - 67 deg head angle - but then there are already like 5 in PMB alone ...

GRRR .... ... The search and thinking will continue - that Cube Stereo 160 looks cool though colour scheme wise ... but I dont know if you can get it into SA

Also will likely cause you to morgage your house

Why not get an angleset and steepen it up if too slack. 65° -> 66.5°

Because that defeats the object of the frames geometry. In my humble opinion each bikes geometry is designed in such a way to maximize a certain point - adjusting the geometry with aftermarket products just messes with this and therefore stuffs up the ride ....

thats why bikes with adjustable geo's dont generally adjust at the headset alone but adjust at the rear end whereby the wheelbase and bb height and head angle is adjusted.

So in short - No an angleset is not the way IMO

HAHAHA - Yeah exactly - My Force with a 69 deg head angle is more than capable on most trails here in SA ...

I would say that 67 is the sweet spot for SA trail bikes .... any slacker will just be crap if the trail is not a DH trail

With the 160 pike my lappierre is at 66.4 and it's perfect. Slacket than that would be a PIA for general trail riding. Fork offset plays a factor too.

It's amazing how different bikes are though. My 27.5 is 60mm's longer ( Axle to Axle ) than my 29'er.

60mm's !!!!

Yet I get around the switchbacks easier on it. Go figure.

Yeah but remember that the trail bike will be designed to have a longer wheelbase than the 29er so as to be more stable at speed over rough stuff. Thats the general trend now for long travel trail bikes - long wheelbase!

As for the switchbacks - thats probably also your head angle, wheelsize, stem length and bar height and width coming into play there

Trance SX Advanced 27.5

Pike 160

XX1

Enve M 70 thirty

Build in progress.....

Nice!!!

If I could get that rear shock and the Pike for my Trance I would be a happy chappy.

FYI

Trance Advanced and Trance Advanced SX share the same frame

as does the

Trance and Trance SX

Difference being the 140mm vs 160mm fork and the rear shock

Ok cool I'm with you

Had the GT Sanction with 66° head angle (which I was VERY happy with) and have moved to the Giant Trance 27.5 2 with 67° headangle (has a 26" 160mm Fox 36 VAN RC2 on instead of the standard 27.5" 140mm Float 32 - same A2C though)

Was concerned about the steeper head angle at first, but been having a blast and getting Strava PRs both up and down (though they're still not that fast).

Maybe just get the Pyga Pascoe then. 67 deg head angle. 140mm rear travel vs 150, much the same in that department.

Also pedals so well, with a 34t chainring, I can't see why you need a more complex linkage design like the VPP on the bronson. Ok, maybe it controls chain growth and isolates the respective forces slightly better (though even that may be debatable), but it leads to a regressive leverage curve that relies on a special shock tune to compensate for. DW Link / maestro is better in this regard.

Instead go for a simpler single pivot / split pivot design with a more progressive leverage ratio like the Pyga or the Devinci troy.

If you get the pyga you won't be alone, but on the plus side, support is great and resale value is proven - used frames on the hub in good nick seem to get snapped up at a good price. So in a year or two if you feel too common and you see your new 160mm dream frame you can trade up without losing much.

Where is the PASCOE?!?!?

How about a 650b Stumpjumper FSR with 150mm travel and 68 deg head tube angle.

This is a carbon model BH Lynx 6.. This version changes from a pierced seat tube to exposed shock BUT it's not been seen anywhere else other than a glimpse on VitalMTB and strangely, the carbon versions on the BH site show the pierced version only. This bike is crafted, some of the closeups I googled really show the effort!
