No hail over the riders yet, but here is how it looks with 30km to go.

The peloton are picking their way through the hail on the road. The roads will be pretty slick now and they've knocked the pace off a little bit. There's been enough crashes during this Giro d'Italia.

It looks like the gap is actually going back out, it's now 1:45. Garmin are on the front of the peloton now.

Canola lead that from the final corner, it looked like Rodriguez might take him on the line but the Italian managed to hold him off.

That stage felt like a bit of a sympathy shag by a tired peloton for the smaller, italian, teams. "thanks for coming, we're just going to keep it a bit easy and warm here. You guys go nuts."

Nizzolo takes the sprint from the peloton

Love it when a break stays away

Stage 14, according to The Inner Ring

A very difficult stage with the Alpe di Noveis offering double-digit gradients that’ll have team mechanics fitting wide gearing for many riders. The final climp to the Oropa Sanctuary – which doubles as a shrine to Pantani’s wildest memories – is a more steady affair but should provide a tactical finish, the climb’s 6% gradients are steep enough to get away but also enough to ride so fast that those who collaborate can share the work to ride away.

I wonder how wise it was of Movistar to admit that Quintana has had bronchitis, only just finished his antibiotics and was "only at 80%" in the ITT. He’s got a bit of a target on his back now - his rivals are going to go after him this weekend. They should want to do it now before he's got a chance to be at 100% again.

Today is a BIG day. We will see whether Quickstep can control a race like the Skyborgs from last year. I am setting my spinning bike up with a compact crank for today... Ha- Ha. Bulls already won, now for Quintana hanging tough (to be in contention later) and Uran to show composure and leadership. Cadel at 2min back will make for animated riding over the next week. Could be a great sporting weekend.
