My KMC chain on my new Trek bike lasted just over 1000km with regular cleaning and lubing, which I found was little. It disintegrated into about 5 pieces on a ride, not fun.

Got a new KMC Gold, lets see how long this lasts. Luckily no damage.

I'm running an XT (HG93) chain. +- 1200km so far with no issues. KEEP IT CLEAN - I clean mine every 2nd ride or after a wet ride. Get yourself a chain cleaner such as the Park. You don't need to use fancy cleaning liquid, something like Prepsol works well. Dry with compressed air and lube it properly.

The other thing to watch when riding is that you don't cross up your chain too much i.e. big chainring with big gear - try to keep the chain as straight as possible.

I run 2 chains alternating them every week to allow for cleaning. Have been doing this for last 13 months and must have logged over 3000 km this way. Plain simple Sram1050 bottom of the range chains, found them to be more durable and cost effective, albeit a couple of grams heavier

Have been riding with the chain that came with my full XT groupset now for 2 years without issues.

My advice: get a solid middle of the range chain and then maintain it. The top of the range chains made from light materials are for sponsored racing snakes that gets a new chain for every race, or for those with deep pockets who don't worry about replacing the chain often to get the weight advantage. But that is just my opinion.

It all depends on how hard you race it.. i found that normal rides i get many 1000's on them .. secret is cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning!!! Get yourself a chain wear measure… and check it every now and again and I'm sure it will last you long !! I get better mileage from cheaper mid range chains for some reason!
