Thanks Fanie.

I'm not sured whether to be impressed or scared but I use Strava extensively to track all off my rides and I live in a closed complex. I can see the blue lines from my front door to the gate clearly!!

If you're scared enough, simple solution. Set it to private.

Just discovered a whole lot of rides - Great!!

This bothers me, people that ride races that are on private property, with strava on, are just asking to get my favorite rides banned. I have permission to ride in the area's, but rogue riders will stuff things up.

For sure but also maybe just start outside or down the road.

I do that, I never start my tracker where I'm staying, regardless of whether I live there or not.

I guess this is why the Epic bans personal GPS.

But rogue riders could just as easily use Google maps, race route maps or the likes to plot routes.

Do you mark your own rides as private when riding these routes?

You could use the privacy zone feature.

I use Google Earth extensively, but the areas are on private land, which a few of us have permission to use, provided that anyone that rides there signs an indemnity form. So a bunch of riders turning up and just riding would jeopardize our access. It's happened to me before, and while I was negotiating access again, under strict limitations, a bunch of idiots ignored the no access signs, and I was told to forget it.

I also help with anti-poaching so they have no problems with me there at the present.

I don't use Strava. Other people that do the races don't set their strava on private!!!

I respect landowner rights and don't support rogue riders

I understand the problem (and sympathise) but I'm not sure how sharing a race route is to blame for people ignoring the law. Rogue riders on private land are acting illegally. I don't believe lawful users of trails should be made to mask their activity (unless expressly asked to do so as a condition of access) because of the illegal actions of others. Especially when these private routes are publicly available through many other means, often including the race or venue website.

Use private zones - you can set up to a 3km (i think) radius around locations that will not be publicly visible.

I hope TMNP aren't watching this - there are an awful lot of tracks showing up on the 'bike' view that are in areas of Tokai and Table Mountain that are regarded as strictly off-limits!

Noticed that too, but selfish idiots will always do what they want.

Hoping some of it is incorrect. How does one cycle up or down Skeleton Gorge or Nursery Ravine? People carrying their bikes up and down for Freedom Challenge training perhaps ^_^
