lechatnoir Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Hi all, I am thinking of upgrading the brakes on my trusty 26" Trance owing to leaky seals and whatnot Currently I have Hayes Juicy Nines. Can I upgrade levers to new spec ones or will I need to upgrade the rotors too? They seem fine and are mounted on DT Swiss hubs. Are there any other things I need to consider? Thanks in advanceT

Tested juicy 5's as well and didnt like them either, have them back after 1 day of riding and then bought SLX's - what wonderful brakes!! Got XT on my new bike and didnt have a single issue in 2years. Cant go wrong with shimanos dude. HaydenE 1

That may have been the case in the past but with the current Shimano brakes, from the way I've experienced them and from reading on the web, virtually the same tech is in all the brakes from Slx up, just a few more adjustable bits and less weight as you go further up. Has anyone ridden the current Deores vs anything further up like SLX/Xtr etc, they look quite the same but apparently there is quite a hit on brake power and lever feel on the Deores vs SLX and up.
