Triathlon Coaching

You probably will need/should get both if you looking to podium.  Unless you willing to dish out some serious cash not sure you will get a coach that will be with you for every training session you do.  Majority of your training you will do on your own.  Thats where training partners come n handy. You  will have to build self discipline, probably the hardest part of a triathletes training.  You will also have to start making a few sacrifices in personal/social commitments.  If you just looking to compete not so much but if you really want to take it serious look forward to going to bed around 8pm and waking at 4am. Training at least 9 times a week and eating clean.

Doing all this alone will take great discipline.  Definitely possible but is it really enjoyable?

I will then seriously have to start looking at a training buddy.

Even if it is only training together over weekends, but phoning each other early morning to get up and going...!

Anyone in Midrand, Centurion area?

if you can't get up, how are you going to call your training buddy ?

You need to take control of this aspect. Get your sleeping sorted and make sure you get up when you need to. People always say its soo difficult, but after a few weeks it starts to feel normal and after a year it becomes your lifestyle.

LOL

Good point...

No its much easier if you know someone, outside of your living area, is depending on you.

Then you know it goes both ways

100% agree on the getting the stuff sorted and letting the laziness stop... But the bed is just sooo damn comfy

It was easy to get up a year or so ago, as you mentioned as I was in the routine.  To get back into it has been the issue

Finishing work this week so hoping to get the routine back up and running!

Is getting a coach worth it though?

I have just started with a swim coach but that is more towards technique and to get that sorted...

I am also doing my first 70.3 in Jan, with 2 Olympic distances behind me.

My biggest struggle is the motivation of getting up in the morning, or to train after work

Will a coach help with that, or is it better to rather get a training buddy. Even if you just alternate by calling each other in the morning to get up...

More often than not I hit the Snooze button and then wake up when I need to jump in the shower!!!

Yes without a doubt

Been doing various endurance sports since 1989 and most of the time following my own plan....

Best results came from MTB and running during a period where I had a coach who accessed my ability / training and provided a specific training plan.

most athletes are their own worst enemy when it comes to training (either to much or to little)... coaches are more knowledgeable and neutral so they can provide good balanced training plans

Aint that the truth...I now wake up at 4 AM come hell, high water or copious amounts of tequila the night before. Its a curse sometimes.

Indeed!  Even worse are the days when you have a rest day or, the ultimate hell, taper time!

Hey Ramrod...

Have subsequently moved to Randburg, sorry man, it would have been great.

I have joined a great training group in Sandton though with a great coach. Have seen incredible increases in fitness and have no more of this laziness - Guessing the fact that the group waits in the morning helps a lot
