Just DONT get the brain fork, unless it is the carbon crown one with the red AND blue dials at the top of the fork. ie the one the SWORKS comes with.

If the brain shock didn't have any merit or wasn't good enough Specialized would have dropped it long ago, But it's been around on production bikes since (to my best recollection) 2003, so its come a long way...

Insurance paid out on my stolen bike and planning on getting a spez epic comp. How good is the brain shock, ive never ridden one off road.

Also if anyone is as tall as me 1,68m what size is your bike. Went for sizing and they said im med. 2 Lbs's said the same. Just wanna know from people my height. (Yes, I know it is not about height solely)

Input required

I am 1.67 - SMALL works for me.

Put the front wheel on a block about 4 - 6 inches tall and see if you have standover clearance on small and medium frames - doesn't matter when you are riding, but DOES matter trying to do a restart on a steep hill.

I have graduated away from the spez bikes. I enjoyed my Sworks epic but always found it harsh, and a little nervous on the downs. The rear end on initial impact was always harsh, but become more fluid if the brain stayed open. ( on medium)

I went to the cannondale scalpel, I really enjoyed it, not as nervous but the rear end tended to bog a little and required a lot of time to get it right. ( Its was stolen), ( on large)

I then picked up a turner czar, and I found my bike, vicious on the downs, it gives too much confidence and my speed exceeds my skill, the ups are good the DW-link rear end works very well, no bob but highly reactive. It is 200g heavier, but build quality is better than both of the big brand bikes and there are a number of other features that make it a great long term solution. ( on large)

I am 1.8m tall.

pls post a pic of that bike...

Woderful bikes just make sure you have the money around for when services come around on the brain shock

Lol, I get a shock everytime my landy goes in for service!

I went for sizing at olympic, med

Revolution cycles, said med

Heldeberg cycles med

Debbie from trail and tar had to change my stem on my small road bike to a longer one, according to her spez chart I can go small or medium.

I rode a medium epic on the road and felt fine, but that I dont consider a test ride.

On my first sizing 10 years ago I was told that I got long arms like a baboon.

I want to climb faster and hit the flats. Not too concerned about flying down ST. I lose too much time on the climbs with my now stolen 120mm trail bike.

I'm use to it, LOL. my trail bike sat high and developed the knack to get going on steep climbs from standstill

Everybody who buys a Maestro etc dual suspension says it's 110% efficient with the shock wide open but if you want to do a short standing sprint the brain is the only design that feels like a hardtail. It's also a very nice handling bike, just buy it.

I'm 1.70 and the medium is perfect for me.

Brain works really well but it is true thay are not cheap to get serviced just got mine done (every 150hr) it does ad up. But it would not be easy to ride anything else then my Epic.

I will cry about the service price, but I will buy one again. Not sure what price you are looking for but I think the Carbon Comp is a good by
