Just guessing that 47 * 20/100 will give me 9 points! Saw on their support page there is an issue with iOS uploads so it should sort itself out.

Just a quick update. The ride uploaded so is issues sorted out, and it did gain me 9 points as guessed.

There are 3 routes i did almost daily to add up the climbing. Lunkily i do mtb'ing as well so on the sat & sun i made up about 3000m of the accumulation.

I am in elite now and the 5 odd compulsory rides i am not looking forward to. 1 of them are like 65km long with more than 1800m of climbing

Are you doing indoor or outdoor rides or a combination of both?

I'd like to be able to do both but unfortunately the weather is not great for outdoor rides at the moment or for the next week.

Guys!!

I'm in the market for buying a trainer and after reading this I'm even more amped. From the comments it seems the two most popular choices are Wahoo's Kickr and CycleOps' Powerbeam Pro, with the latter being first choice. Or if there are other good options, help me.

I assume from the Powerbeam models here https://www.cycleops.com/product/powerbeam the best would be the model #9481 with ant+ and Joule unit? It's not cheap, but I assume worth the cost?

Do you need or specifically want the joule computer, it adds $200 to the cost.

The only advantage i can see to having the joule is that you can use it to control the trainer resistance without going online to the CVT program on your desktop or tablet.

Not sure which trainer is the best option, I've only had the powerbeam pro with Ant+ and joule and it has worked flawlessly. The only issues I've had have been with the cvt online software while doing online races, but that was for a short while and it seems to be ok now.

I use the software on a laptop (desktop app) for all my indoor rides, if i want to upload an outdoor route onto the CVT routes facility I use the joule computer, but the CVT program will work with most gps files and not just those from the joule.

Hi Andydude

Thanks for the interest, however the model you have quoted we no longer bring in to SA. We only offer the PowerSync trainer which is compatible with more models of MTB (142mm Thru axles as well) and thus a more popular trainer.

The joule is only useful if only doing workouts or freerides. Also the process to create a workout and upload it onto the joule is a lot more involved than using the feature in the CVT app so keep that in mind - the app may cost slightly more long term but it has a LOT more capabilities than the joule and is easier to use.

Feel free to drop us a mail at info at bicyclepower dot co dot za and we can answer any question you may have further.

Merci Monsieur! So as long as I have internet access and subscribe to the CVT, I can do everything with that.

I kind of stopped cycling when I came here, but now want to get back into it, starting with buying a roadbike and then also a trainer.

Thanks for the reply, (Dave, right?). I'm actually living in France now so do you know the distributor here?

When you say the part in bold above, does that not cover all rides? Or what does "workouts" or "freerides" mean exactly?

Hi it is Shaun from Bicycle Power, The french distributor would be:

FRANCE

Matsport
229 Allée Champrond
38330 St Ismier
info@matsport.com
www.powertap.fr

The Joule can do preset workouts and control the trainer accordingly, so for example, you set up a workout to ride for 5 min at 100W and then increase to 200W for 2 min before dropping down to 100W again...all you would need to do is keep a steady cadence and the trainer/Joule will make sure that you achieve those numbers by increasing and decreasing the resistance.

The "freeride" is along the lines of you jump on and feel like death warmed up (lets say) and don't feel like doing a preset workout, so you pedal at 100W for 10min and then you can manually adjust the resistance via the Joule according to what you feel like doing.
