If I may, I really get annoyed when people start throwing cars in to the mix.

There is a vast difference from a Hyundai to a Subaru to a Porsche and a Zonda.

Bikes are bikes, no more no less.

What affects the price ?

Exotic materials such as carbon, titanium and high grade alloy's.

(Thank goodness steel has come down in price over the years)

So we now have carbon wheels with triple butted spokes and alloy nipples that cost R 12 per nipple.

Carbon cranks with a highly engineered centre spline, on a top end bike of any brand you get brakes with carbon bits, the top of the line group set and carbon wheels.

In the end of the day, strip the entire bike down to just the frame, remove the RS1 and you sit with the Specialized Epic, off the bat you are paying a premium for their FSR patent, the brain shock and their FACT carbon manufacturing process.

Now let's move on and take those parts that are sitting in a box, what are we strapping them on to ?

There is not one brand name manufacturer that makes rubbish in this day and age anymore, yes they all have their marketing drivel but in the end of the day, no matter what brand you choose from, that box of components will get strapped on to frames across all manufacturers.

As I said ,nobody makes rubbish anymore, they simply can't afford to do so, the market is way too competitive.

Cars are a different ball game all together, we start toying with vastly different chassis, suspensions, engines, body work and then you also pay a premium when Pinninfarina or any other auto designer slaps his name on to it.

This has nothing to do with cars and how vastly they differ, this is about value for money.

I am sorry, but when I throw my leg over a Titan or Merida, there is absolutely no excitement. Now, a top end S-works or Rocky Mountain rsl etc, makes tingle in the right places.

Still gets you from A to B and still doesn't allow for comparisons between GTI's and Lambo's.

My bikes are very simple, much simpler than most of the exotic stuff people around here play with.

I understand what you are saying. But getting from A to B was never, and will never be my goal in cycling. I have a 26 inch Giant Revel3 bike in my garage. It weighs 15kg, so whenever I feel my current bike is not good enough, I climb on the Giant and ride 2km down the road, cramp up, throw up, pass out, and then go back home and polish and lube my other bikes.

Ridiculous price for a bicycle. Out of range for the 99%, but if you are in the fortunate 1%, good for you. Just remember that the people shall govern-not anytime soon, but eventually, one day we hope.... Hopefully your butler will pass on the message

I have had more S-Works bikes over the years than what I can count.

This is not an S-Works, doesn't cost R 130 k, doesn't have the latest and greatest technology, but I get more excited throwing my leg over this, than the latest bikes around.

Thanks dude. Interesting the s-works frameset has the normal fork, but complete bike has the sid. Same with the stumpy ht. think they might sell more frames than s works bikes this year. I have my eye on the camber s works carbon. Want it bad.

Thanks Ricus. Confirms what I thought yesterday...they will price the xtr version higher because they added the new RS1 fork on that model plus the dropper seatpost that you like so much. And its a brain version. Damn these guys are far ahead. The world cup version is exactly the same. Guys selling their world cup 2014 models for the 2015 world cup version are crazy.. :) Also see that they made a female epic version, but with only 1 bottle cage......

Johny, talk to Lodolouw first, he had one and changed it for a epic, me too, unless you ride trails like all the time and not worry too much about top end speed.

I have the Epic marathon carbon, but the Camber is a really nice play bike. Epic for racing, camber to play.
