This is both to show off and to give a few tips and hints.

Saw a clip on youtube last week and decided it is time to do the proper packing thing with my backpack.

It is a mess in the bag at the moment.

Taking with me... (In the backpack)

Shirt, pair of Socks

Underwear

iPad

External 2.5" drive

Bankrupt wallet

Cycling pump

Co2 bomb

Tyre levers

Some days I will take the MacBook Air home but can do most things on my home PC

Roll everything ! And learn to leave your shoes behind at work... On less thing to carry, as they take up quite a bit of space!

I have about 4 pairs at work at the moment.

Chucked all the stuff into my bag this afternoon before my commute home. Was darn irritating as things were out of place. Even my music started irritating me after about 750 meters.

Do any of you have a "commuters specific" type bag?

Not really commuter specific, but it has features that I would consider very important.

  • pull over rain cover
  • side pockets for tubes, pump, keys, etc
  • smaller top pocket with zip for small goodies that are a of value
  • main compartment has two zippers and they go rather far down the side of the bag allowing easy access
  • main compartment can be accessed from the underside of the bag via a large zipper
  • underside of bag is a nice thick waterproof material
  • waist and chest straps
  • Retention straps to reduce the overall "volume" of the back when packed .... keeps things nice and tight.
  • reflective strips are a bonus.

Test I do to my bags when buying them is to open the top of the bag and then step into the bag .... if your foot goes in easily and there is a decent space left, then you know you can pack your shoes in easily.

I only take a backpack if it's raining.  But them I'm only 5km from work and don't work in a shirt and tie environment...

Dude ... at 5km from work you can cycle in a full suit and get to work fresh and without helmet hair!
