Safe way onto the spruit

Hi all.

I live close to the new cyclelab mega store

 

What's the safest route onto the spruit?

 

A few years back I used to go down witkoppen then turn right under the highway bridge.

However I got held up there and have yet to go back.

Is it still dodgy?

Safest to get on the spruit at 12th Ave or Bryanston Drive.

 

I cannot comment with regard to further up and how safe it is these days.

*edit* misread the map, thought it was showing the Witkoppen entry, heading under N1 and river crossing.

 

From the map, you can also take a left into Cowley and right at Devonshire

I find the safest way on to the spruit, is to uncleat and walk over that little bridge, its scary stuff that. But if you are skilled and a daredevil like Manbearpig, then you can ride it.

There are many - 12th avenue, Bryanston shops, Fratellis in Blairgowrie etc.

 

All are with their perils as the access is not where the guys will mug you - its under the bridges and in the long grass.

 

So pay attention when you are isolated in those areas, and try and ride in bunches...

That little bridge by Devonshire? Road the spruit this weekend for the first time in many moons and see it's been rebuilt. Smooth concrete ramp on and off that bridge. My missus face planted it before the upgrade, no more comedy shows there any more
