Was wondering about that. A properly built trailer (like the one that was used at Contermans) is pivotal, and changes the game completely.

Ja. That and the buy in of the land owners.

Jan of Steilte trails fame really really wants to. He has the drive, and the names to help him (needles) as well as the volunteer okes (Duran Duran aka Inigo Martines) and so on.

Yup. He's the man for that job. And doing great work too. We'll see some big announcements coming out of Steilte soon.

Jan is that type of guy that we all wish we were more of. He see's something and he goes out and does it. Rent a digger? Screw that I'll just buy one.

He's busy building the up route from the farm stall and when he's done with that he's going to buff the down route. His plan is that you'll be able to ride (and be entertained) any bike all the way from the top to the farm stall. That's close to 4km of down and about I'm guessing about 400m of vert. I've asked him to build a particular feature on track close to the farm stall which he's agreed to but it's going to take a lot of material........... geddit?

I wish he had come to France with us to get inspired. Ah well. Next year.

The only real problem with Steilte is access and uplifts. Hopefully our little venture will solve that somewhat.

There's another venue that's keen for us to do uplift days but we need to work out the details this week.

The idea behind this whole thing is that it becomes logical to own a DH bike in the cape. And that as a gravity freak you can get uplifts every weekend. The UK has a THRIVING DH scene that is serviced almost exclusively by uplifts.

Jonkershoek pls

Ja the problem with places like Jonkers and Tokai is the people that ride there and think they own it getting offended cos you have the temerity to ride your bike for fun instead of pain.

But yes. Those are on the to do list. Whether either of those will ever happen is another thing all together.

You guys need to see what Jan has been up to at Steilte. Howleee sheet.

The D Train jump line is done with 5 amazing tables and the roller table jump before that is going to be turned into a big table plus the table before that. That's 7. Then further down you can cross onto the A-line style track that he's busy with and bam 4 tables in a row.

Admittedly the last 2 require some legs to get into but where else in SA can you bam 11 swweet tables in a row.

There's also a super flowy enduro style line that's got smaller tables but you can hit the track on anything and haul ass. Super fun.

To add to this.

Where the A-ine style track goes back into the bushes after the 4 tables there will be 2 PROPER Chatel style berms. 8 foots boys and then you'll go into a series of berm to berm action ending off with a step up jump. Then a left hander into a M#$%^&F*&KING HUGE step down (there will be a line for old fella's like me)

The guys the did the enduro will be familiar with the area cos it's where you turned into the 4x4 trail and pinned next to the fence.

Then he's going to make a bunch of switch backy berms next to the fence. Wind is an issue there so building jumps will be an issue.

The plan is to build an A-line style trail all the way to the Kiosk. Then closer to the Kiosk he's going to build something worthy of a Whip off contest...............

Are there actually people who would oppose the use of an uplift bakkie at these places because its all like anti-treehugging and the ethos of XC 'n all?

I like pedaling up at least once, but after that I want an uplift. Jonkers would be an amazing spot for a shuttle.

It's more of a traffic issue TBH. You could NEVER run an uplift service at Tokai for example on a weekend. there's just too many people riding down the jeeptrack.

Jonkers you could get away with maybe cos it's far more spread out but I wouldn't hold out much hope for those 2 venues TBH.

Plus the uplift at jonkers is a bit of a mission, I'm told

No. Jonkers is actually an easy uplift. Just run the uplift to the intersection where the provincial DH track is. Then the boys can ride across on the flat road to canaries or the double black or tip in to the DH right there.

Would be SSSSIIIIICCCKKK. but I'm not holding my breath.
