Hi Hubers

I'm looking to upgrade my road bike wheelset which are currently 2013 Fulcrum Racing Comp.

Can anyone give me advise on the following, budget isn't too high (Sub 5k)

American Classic Victory 30 Tubless - R3,899 - look like a good wheelset, light (1592grams), cant find any reviews.

MAVIC Ksyrium Equipe S Black - R4,995 - reviews look good but weighs in at 1690grams.

American Classic SPRINT 350 R4,995 - again reviews look good and weighs 1410grams.

American Classic makes some well specced wheels.

Sprint 350 and CR420 are good value.

CR420 is also semi-deep so offers some aero benefit too.

Or you could of course get these  :

Not sure how much of an upgrade the Victory 30 presents.

The Victory 30 is light compared to my current wheelset, surely this should make a difference?

Novatec sprints are great, around that price, not sure about availability. Evo bikes stoked them, maybe ask if getting new stock. They sold out pretty fast last time. Very light and strong have had mine for 3 years almost now.

No idea what your current wheelset entails.

Be careful of only looking at weight.

A wheel should not only be light, it should be functional too.

Easton EA70's are brilliant from my own use. Not sure on price though.

I think these will be quite a bit more expensive (±R7k), unless looking @ 2nd hand.

How has the victory 30 been performing? I'm considering getting a set myself

I have just been through the same process which took me a good 3 - 4 months. I had the same idea in mind, wanted new wheels under 5000, however after a lot of advice from guys here and research on my own I realised I wouldn't be getting much more for that price compared to what I already had. End of the day rather save some extra money or stretch your budget abit and get a proper set of wheels at a higher cost, the difference it makes to your bike and ride will make the money well worth it within the first few kilometres of riding.

I ended up going with a set of 50mm carbon clinchers from CCD and they are an awesome set of wheels that I only use when at races.

Take your time and keep an eye on the classifieds daily... there will always be a good deal that comes up that is well worth it.

If you don't want deeper section wheels then I would go for the AM 420 aero3 - they have brilliant reviews.

i have a pait of victorories

They perform great, the hubs are awesome, turn the bike over spin the front wheel, it goes for 8 min

I wanted to upgrade and get the argent, but no stock currently

So I went for the Shamal's on wiggle for only R8250

Tracking the parcel every day.... :w00t:

Wheels are performing very well, definitely recommended for the price range. Still have my sights on the Mavic Ksyrium Elites but can't justify spending that much money...

Profile is more important than weight (unless over 1,800gr). I say get some 35mm or 50mm sections.

The new Campagnolo Scirocco 35mm..very nice set of wheels. These are strong wheels, so you can train and race with them.
