OP: what are you trying to achieve? a specific sporting goal, or general fitness? If you define what you want to achieve, then it will become easier to shape your activities to achieve that goal.

My first post. Guess it figures that its about food.

Anyways. I found I had/ have the same issue. I dont think I have solved it yet but few things I find work for me. ( Outside of exercises people have suggested) Only been riding for few months but have same issue on motorbike ( Enduro)

Anything shorter than 2 hrs I can get away with 32GI or similar sports drink . Anything over and I need a boost mid ride.

I find that I crave savoury stuff more than sweet. I think it could be because of sweetness of sports drink.

I eat nuts ( unsalted), banana or a sandwich, Anything really that helps replenish the food. I basically try and eat a little very hour. I do avoid gels, sweets, energy bars etc until the last hour of the ride.

Oh and I eat a oats, egg and some juice before I ride

And then couple of beers after ( I do deserve them after all) but I hear recovery drinks may be better

Food won't give you power hey

It'll support your body to perform and assist to fulfil the potential reached in training and fitness .

True but the context of the question indicated he has the power&fitness but not always. Hence asking about food and not training and fitness.
