Hello fellow hubbers on this friday.

 

i see 18 oct is scheduled for a mile and hour for 12 hour extreme swim near somerset west at blue rock.i am thinking of entering but was wondering how to approach training.i am a regular swimmer.any ideas apart from htfu and dont drown.

i want to do robben island crossing next year and then i can tick the 3 cool events in ct being argus(or whatever its called) two oceans and robben island swim.its only the latter that is absent.looking for a challenge and i think this just might be it.

not quite sure.i enjoy the swim part of the tri as i am horrible on the bike and run.thought i would concentrate a bit more on the open water swims after auckland 70.3 and sa IM next year.done a few clifton,santos,langebaan,granger bay,quarry,silvermine swims before over the last couple of years.currently swimming easy ie 3,2 km open water in about 65 min and not killing myself as its where i relax on the tri.

Was thinking the same thing. Need a lot of people so that if a toothy critter pops past you have less chance of being on the menu!

Get a wetsuit and a shark pod, then get used to swimming with said wetsuit and shark pod. Then you are ready. Good luck with that chap in the charcoal suit and white wing tips.

When is the next dam open water swim? I don't do ocean swimming anymore. I only do the odd mtb tri, but not the Slanghoek (done last 2 years) as I want to enjoy the whole mtb season this year. MTB events are also cheaper than tri events. Open water swim events are usually not too expensive to enter. Good luck reteid!
