Which Road bike for +/-60K?

I'd look at a Wilier Cento 1 Air. Unique enough that you're not just 1 of 5 people in the bunch with the same bike, high end enough that you'll feel as satisfied to own one.

I find Spez to be as common as a Merida or a Scott.

Planet X spitfire normally over GBP 2500 now at GBP 1300.  Catch only available in 58 or 50 cm

Hand made in Italy by Sarto Antonio; the Spitfire is a pure, thoroughbred race bike. Crafted by hand from custom drawn T800 tubing, and then assembled by the most skilled Italian frame builders. You can feel the difference from your first moment in the saddle. The Spitfire is a like nothing else.

Hand made frames have no access resin in unnecessary places, unlike monocoque frames made from a mold. The carbon tubes are cut, bonded and wrapped to meet the needs of each individual rider. The JB920PX is extremely light, but stiff in all the right places.

The oversized down tube and BB386 bottom bracket shell have been bonded to a superbly made, box shaped, micro rear triangle, offering superior stiffness, and a super responsive drive train, for maximum acceleration. A relatively long top tube and low front end, combined with the tapered, conical head tube and monocoque carbon, fork give you total control and confidence on the steep descents and tight corners.

Comfort - This tried and tested, race proven geometry, offers the most comfortable ride, even over 7-8 hour rides, on the flats and in the mountains.

Stiffness and Handling - Every tube on this frame has been custom drawn, produced and then assembled by hand in Italy. The tubing structure and layout has been studied to offer optimum stiffness in all the key areas, without adding excessive weight or drag!

A BB386 bottom bracket shell and micro rear triangle offer a super responsive drive chain and rear end. The conical head tube and flattened top tube give the bike great control and handling on the descents and corners, even at high speed.

Weight - By using the latest technology in hand made T800 carbon fibre, and predominantly round shaped tubing. We have managed to keep the total frame weight to a super light 920gr +/-.

Each frame is assembled by hand, using tube to tube technology. This means that each and every frame is made completely by hand. The tubes are cut to size, glued, and the joints are then wrapped in layers of carbon and resin. This method has huge benefits, as each frame can have custom geometry/sizing. And even the amount of wrapping can be increased or decreased depending on rider weight, and intended end use of the bicycle.

Aerodynamics - The front end of the frame is the first part to hit the wind, so we have used a shorter head tube, allowing for a lower, more aero, rider position, and a super stiff, flat bladed, monocoque front fork.

At the rear of the bike, the chainstays on the micro triangle are positioned to take airflow away from the rear brake caliper, towards the flow of the rear tire.

Thanks. Looks like a great bike. But not my "top of the list."

I have narrowed the decision down. I will make a final decision this week / weekend and will let you all know the outcome ;) thanks for all the advice! much appreciated

Indeed, 2nd hand is certainly good value when the right deal comes around...

Had a look at the Bianchi Oltre listed in the classified which was a thorough bread racing machine! Concerned about the maintenance cost of the Campy SR EPS groupset. But a lovely bike...

Leaning towards the Venge ;) But a bit concerned about the 60mm deep sections with the wind.

Thanks for your comments

maintenance cost is exactly the same - your normal wear and tear items . being a campy rider , they tend to last much longer any way

Nobody's mentioned BMC!!  I love my BMC!  It's super comfortable, light and fast.  And I think it looks the dogs danglies.  They even won the Tour de France in 2012 (besides plenty of off road wins recently)

What more could you possibly want??

Your choice between the Spez and Pino is most certainly justified, I have a Pino F8 and alhtough the Venge came pretty close after consulting with the guys on the Hub and being lead by some pretty interesting comments  I remained with Pino only because of past experience with my previous Pino.....the Venge is an awesome machine and I do believe that you will enjoy every moment spent on it, the Dogma of course is my first choice...again only because I have owned a ...Merida, Canondale...Paris and now the F8....

Good luck with your choice and ....SAFE RIDING...

The question is, are you a brand snob or not?  If not you could consider a Merida Reacto Team Evo.  Full Dura Ace Di2.  This bike is good enough for Rui Costa so can't be too bad.  And you will get change out of the R60k.
