Wheel Build from old parts

I am new to cycling and have an entry level bike I am slowly upgrading as I progress.

My question is, can I use my old hubs and spokes etc. and just transfer them to new rims?

This would save a lot of money I assume.

Let me know if you have done this in the past and if it works.

The new rims may need spokes of different length if the rim profile is different.

Some of your old spokes may be bent or seized onto the spoke nipples. Expect to replace a few even if the lengths are same.

Makes sure to get rims with same no of holes as ur old hubs.

For the time and effort, your older parts may not be worth it, rather look for complete wheelsets in the classifieds, second hand, often find great deals there

Built several wheels with old spokes ,new hub, other rims.

Best to get new nipples, thou.

Have to be certain the spokes are the right length.

I did find it harder to true the wheel, and have read its not advisable to rebuild wheels with old spokes.

Actually that is incorrect, it's just plain stupid.
