I am just wondering how many miles I can get from an XT Cassette.

I have logged 2000KM on my XT cassette, in heavy, over 95KG and had done some serious wet rides, most my of MTB riding is uphill gravel and small bits of tar, spinning low gears, try to get all of me up hills, does 2000KM sound about right,

If your chain was in good working order and lubed enough, you should get around 2500+ to 3000kms, then it should be worn but still useable I would say.

Keep it clean and gears + chain properly lubed as mentioned above. Chain care is a factor, as is riding terrain and conditions.

Try to ride in correct gears, not with the chain crossed (e.g. big front and big rear.

Replace chains at about 0.75% wear, definitely before wear exceeds 1%

You should get 2 or even 3 chains per cassette this way.

I tend wearing the little ring on the cassette. Why because I don't properly look after it, change cears in power situations and lastly I flippen love powering through things rather using my cadence.

Try not to ride like me. I must say losing some weight has helped me some. I am almost at my goal weight were it will make sense to also change the weight of my bike... or rather buy a lighter new bike or frame. I also have started learning how to ride properly but still love that little chain ring and getting my ass of the saddle too much.

That said I still do not know why these things are so damn expensive

I wore out my drive chain quite quickly on replacing it I  bought 3 chains and rotate each month then you will extend the life of the cassette. This advice was given to me by my LBS

^^ I also tend to wear the smallest cassette ring, think its from cross chaining from the small blade(which I speculate has more torque and is excessively wearing to the cog than using the big blade with lower cadence would produce) , you can order them them on their own for around R100 from the Lbs.

Curently running a 10-speed XT cassette with 7800 km. I use 2 x XTR chains concurrently, clean and swap them religiously every Sunday after my weekend riding. I am only 68 kg which I believe makes a big difference ...

I am on 7000km with 1 KMC chain and SLX cluster. Had to replace the big chainring at 5000km because it was very noisy. I have already bought a new chain, cluster and chainrings, but this have become an experiment for me. I want to see how long it will last before it start skipping. Clean and lube regularly and it would last forever.

Ok there is alot of the same thing, we need to understand that the nature of MTB is that in a race 5km from the start you can hit mud sand and water, unless you get off an perform your cleaning ritual you need to keep going, I accept this.

I put the new chain and cassette on on the 1st June, and road the notorious Cape Weather, rain, Mud sand the lot, add to this my 95KG and I am hoping 2000KM is ok, I don't care about replacing the items, a XT cassette and 10 speed chain from Chain reaction for about R650, but considering the facts is 2000km about it, or should i be getting more.
