Let me see if i've got this wrong

The waves go off and we have until 1pm to be in so if you have an 8am start you have 5 hours to finish but if you were unlucky enough to be born a woman you have a 9am start so you have 4 hours to finish? How does that work - the weaker athletes must just balega to the end?!?!

Maybe this is a rookie statement i dunno but that how i read it?

Whats a good time for one of these events?

And us oldies go off at 8:45.. you read it right... the young, fit and healthy of the species off at the front  :whistling:

Decent time will be 2:40hrs to 3hrs if you fairly fit... the pro's will be 2hrs or less

When I first started cycling I was also wondering about this. In a perfect world I think they should let the slower people start first so that most people finish around the same time. Big problem here is that you have casual athletes only doing it for fun vs hard core racing people. It wouldn't be much fun for them having guys speeding by trying to get to the front. Also the first guy over the line is then not the winner necessarily. I however see that in some events they let the Elites start later, like the Sandton Duathlon this past weekend.

I think practically it's a problem, which you will agree on if you've ever been at the older finishes of the Amashova when the elites (and behind them other fast groups) come in at pace and they are dodging the shorter distance riders finishing at a similar time.

Absolutely! I'm not saying it's the way to go i was merely commenting on a race that does this!

I wonder if this has to do with the type of race. If you think of MTB, if there is a lot of single track this would be quite dangerous with guys trying to overtake. But in a tri with open roads and no drafting allowed this could work I guess.

My weather app has a high of 33 and winds from 18 to 24 between 9 and 12. Don't mind the temp so much an hope the wind a lil docile out there.

Registration took me all of 90 seconds , very well run.

Really looking forward to this. Last tri was Durban beginning of August so I guess this is he season starter event to April 10.

So we did it ????????

Nice to meet you Ice Creme Man - thanks for coming over!

THAT WIND ????????????????

The swim was my worst ever literally - wow that was tough

Then the ride - well it took a lot to just stay on my bike and not get blown off by the wind

The run was more of a walk but it was awesome being able to chat to people and not worry about being nailed for drafting! Awesome encouragement along the way

All in all got burnt to a cinder, my body is stiff today but I came home with a happy heart and a finishers medal! AWESOME!

Next challenge:

Kaapsehoop 21k this Saturday

94.7 the following weekend (in the sweeper group with a 10:30 start time ????)

Happy training guys!

What was yr time?

2:55 .... 10 minutes slower than last year.

Was aiming for 2:39:59 but when I got to germiston lake on sunday I realized that would be unlikely...the wind was a menace no matter which way one rode never really favouring us.

Time was 10 minutes slower but my position was around 40 slots better than 2014 so all in all a tougher event. Also had a great swim in what was probably the worse open water swim I have ever done being so choppy.
