If you buy the Elite you wont have to upgrade anything :-)

So the Control are lighter. Any other differences? Hub, Bearings, Spokes? I also noticed that my bike came with an S-Works front tyre and a normal back tyre. Same tread pattern though.

Not really, it is just how the hierachy works .

Saying that, I have X/O on my one bike with an XT crank, I had an XX crank and after spending more money on BB's in one year than beer, I decided enough is enough.

I also know a lot of guys who prefer the Shimano brakes to the Sram brakes.

In the end of the day, the shifters and the derailleurs make the biggest impact.

Sram were clever with XX, design a gruppo not very different to XO and suddenly you have more people buying our XO gruppo because the next one up is out of reach for the common man.

2 words for you... "Chris King" for the BB.... :)

Both bikes is still heavier than Scott Spark 910

The Scott would have to be free for ME to take it over a Epic. :whistling:

Dont worry about weight, few grams here and there wont take away from the feel of the bike.

On the XT crank yes.

Do you thing there is any meaningful difference between how the crank influences the BB - so for example does an XO crank or an XT crank behave differently on the same bike with a CK BB?

Serious question.....

The hubs are different, the spokes are straight pull double butted, the bearings are sealed bearings, no difference there same as any other sealed bearing.

The reason you get the S-Works.

It's lighter so the bike in the shop on the sales floor give you the wow factor and they have to dump that stock somewhere .

Not really, I just don't like the GXP spindle tapers.

Not a big fan of carbon cranks either .

I bought a 2014 Epic Comp Carbon and have upgraded the following in the last year.

  • SRam XO shifters & derailleurs
  • Changed the crank to a Carbon XO 170mm crank (I am 1.74m tall)
  • XT cassette
  • Carbon Roval wheels (made a HUGE difference over the Alloy wheels)
  • Brain fork
  • XO trail brakes (four pot callipers) they are amazing
  • XX brake rotors
  • Silicone grips
  • SWAT kit
  • Ordered a S-Works carbon handle bar from Cyclefunatics today.

I used this method to improve my race car as well.  One step at a time.

This way, I know the benefit/advantage every upgrade brought individually.

I ride my bike like I stole it and it sure makes up for the lack of talent :whistling: .

It makes me feel like a Erik Kleinhans or Christof Sauser. :D

Some okes will differ with the way I did it, but it's my money and my bike.

With the money he has spent, he could have bought a S-works. Seriously.
