The plastic is just a bearing interface between the alloy threaded sleeves and the frame. Its designed to take out the galvanic corrosion that would occur with alloy cups into carbon frames. Mines lasted a year now.....in a Cannondale with its stupid BB83

mine has been going for just under 6000km and I've only had to remove and clean it once after we went swimming....

What bike do you have?

I have one with a silly PF30a/83 where the crank axle overhangs the drive side by 23mm.

Giant XTC

Two reasons.

1) Its a Giant

2) its a BB92 for 41mm ID BB shells and you're probably using a 24mm axle crank like a Shimano?

You would probably be ok with a bog std Shimano or SRAM Plastic BB in that frame

Giant is one of the few that actually seems to have very few BB issues with their bikes in the field. Good adherence to tolerances in terms of fit tolerances, bore concentricity and roundness delivers fewer problems to the end user.

Some BB designs are just outright cynicism by the manufacturers.
