Could anyone please help with the following:

Rank the components in the topic in order in terms of quality please.

Example - SLX, Deore, XT, SRAM etc. And give comments regarding this

Thanks

Like rouxtjie said, and also different years for shimano ranks differently, this years Deore is about Last SLX quality etc. Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Also strangest first post ever.

Well you cant rate SRAM (an ENTIRE brand) against a product from Shimano, you need to know what type of SRAM.

It would go, Dura Ace, Ultegra, 105, Tiagra, XTR, XT SLX Deore

Sram would go: Red, Force, attack, xo, x9 x7 x5.

Forgot the obligatory

Maybe best overall package maybe OP(weight / price / durability / performance)

If that is the case, then its better to look at each component that makes up a groupset...cherry pick the crown jewel in each from different manufacturers and you set

Remember there is no rule that you have to have a full XT / XO / SLX / XTR group...some components won't be compatible(rear shifter and rear DR needs to be same brand), but for the rest...gooi a mixed bag

This has been dealt with numerous times, but finding the right keywords to search is the tricky part.

So here goes...

Shimano and SRAM both have a numbering system.

SRAM's is easy,

Bottom of range to top -  X5, X7, X9, X0, XX, X01, XX1.

Shimano's numbering is more cryptic. One has to look at the model numbers.

Bottom of range to top) - Alivio (M4xx), Deore (M5xx), SLX/Zee (M6xx), XT (M7xx), Saint (M8xx), XTR (M9xx).

Now the trick comes in when trying to compare...

As a generalization one could say the one brand has an equivalent in the other (ie. XTR 11sp = XX1)... but that is debatable.

So if I were to draw up the scale it would look something like this (this is take on things).

Bottom to top.

Alivio/X5 (either way entry level)

Deore

X7

SLX/Zee (Zee is specifically for Gravity bikes)

XT

X9

X0

Saint (Saint is also Specifically for Gravity bikes)

XTR 10sp

X01

XX1

XTR 11sp

Once again, this is just my take on things. Not the final say on the matter.

hahaha! I see what you did there...

like you I too wouldn't be keen to replace the cassette on one of those 11sp drive trains, so yes that would count against them in my books.

yea look that is from a pure "value" proposition. So on paper XX1 / XTR 11spd doesnt make sense...but eish, one look at them through the bike shop window and all reason goes for a ball of crap

mooi bly mooi...just can't bring myself to ride ugly things...No pun

Cool thanks guys

Old MTBer, but has never really caught on to what is best in the component range, thas why I posted.

It may seem wierd to some, just though I would get your opinions

Would be upgrading my bike next year maybe, so need to consider the correct components or combinations
