Hi Gerald,

Two things.

The online entry is asking for the  2013 94.7 time instead of the 2014 time.

(Guess i will just play dumb and enter my 2013 time :D )

How do I add another person to the entry process so I can only pay once?

It should actually be the 2014 947 time  .

About multiple entries (less than 5), I've asked for an answer and I'll let you know as soon as I get it.

For anyone wanting to do bulk entries...

If you wish to make use of our bulk entry facility (5 entries or more), please contact the race office via email on info@germistonclassic.co.za or call us on 072 678 2140.

Before checking out there is an option to ADD ANOTHER ENTRY - not sure on the exact wording.

Let me know if it works.

#FridayFlashback a younger Reinhardt Janse van Rensberg winning the 2010 race. It was also the first year we increased the Elite category distance. That year it was 132km, before it increased to 134 (2011/2), 150 (2013), 160 (2014) and 165 (2015).

I'm sure many of you would have received a mail from CyclingSA a few minutes ago.

If you aren't aware, we had a fatality last year during the race. The event was a sanctioned event and the event organisers have always followed their (CSA's) guidelines - for a number of years now. In fact, they have often gone way beyond the minimum requirements laid out, in the interests of safety. Even with all the safety precautions, it isn't guaranteed to prevent an accident from happening. With that in mind, we also request that the cyclists taking part in this race (and others) ride in a responsible manner.

I'm sure this statement from CSA will open a can of worms (or popcorn) - and if it does, it's better to do so in a thread outside of this event thread.

Dear Gerald M*****,

Cycling SA Event Sanctioning

During 2010, the SAFETY AT SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL EVENTS ACT, 2010 (ACT NO.2 OF 2010)(hereinafter the Act) was written into SA law. The Act talks about the procedures and safety requirements for any sporting or recreational event held in South Africa. In 2014, the Pedal Power Association challenged Cycling South Africa and SASCOC on the basis that events need not seek the sanction of the National Federation to host an event, nor meet the conditions of sanctioning by that federation.

Cycling SA understands the outcome of the judgement, and has since invited events to continue to be part of the greater cycling fraternity. Should an event sanction through Cycling SA, we provide certain benefits to the event organiser. These benefits are listed below:

  • Free event liability insurance (new for 2015)
  • Listing on the national calendar
  • Event promotion through email mailshot (new for 2015)
  • Commissaires (officials)
  • Cycling SA Sanctioned logo and unique number
  • Cycling SA Sanctioned certificate

In return for these benefits, an event is subject to the following conditions and costs:

  • Calendar application and fee – dependent on the size and status of the event, ranges from R500 to R5750
  • Completion of the event sanctioning form – that forms the basis of the events safety file (emergency, public safety and disaster management confirmations)
  • Rider levy – minimum R6 and maximum of R10 per rider
  • Day licence for non-Cycling SA members @ R35 per day

The Cycling SA National Council, the highest decision making body in terms of Cycling SA’s constitution, decided at the November National Council meeting, that any event seeking the sanction of Cycling SA would need to comply with the Cycling SA event sanctioning requirements, and that the rules associated thereto would be for the entire event. This decision was made due to a rising number of accidents and non-compliance by some events to the above mentioned Act. Cycling SA has been called upon to investigate certain instances that have mostly affected the “non-racing” categories, which are becoming the most vulnerable group of riders. We, at Cycling SA, see each and every participant as a cyclist and wish to ensure that all participants are kept as safe as possible during an event. Hence the ruling that should Cycling SA provide its new sanctioning logo for event promotion, that we are confident that the event is compliant with safety regulations.

There have also been instances, whereby some officials have been at unsanctioned events without following the necessary appointment process. This, in turn, provides riders with the false sense of comfort that the event is indeed Cycling SA sanctioned. Our technical committee has revised this ruling and our Commissaires will only be in attendance at Cycling SA sanctioned events.

Cycling SA has the vision to promote social cohesion and participation equality. We, as the National Federation, will not penalise any of our members or licensed riders for participating in events not listed on our national calendar, or events unsanctioned by Cycling SA, as this would be counter-productive. However, it must be noted that no Cycling SA Commissaires will be authorised to officiate at unsanctioned events. We uphold the UCI’s suspension of the “forbidden race rule”, that allows licensed riders to participate in non-sanctioned events, and have a firm belief that any participant should be treated on an equitable basis. This is the reason for the day licence, which stipulates that the holder thereof agrees to participate within the rules of the event and that of Cycling SA.

We are aware of a press release issued by the Pedal Power Association, and acknowledge their right to not seek sanctioning of the Cape Town Cycle Tour with Cycling SA. We wish them and all the participants the best of luck, and hope all have an incident free race.

Wow, thats how to advertise an event, thanks.

What a shame it co-incides with the Ashburton Sabie National Series race.

Would love to do this race, how about a new date next year that doesnt clash with another big event?

These two events have been on the same weekend for many years and u haven't done either (officially).

2 weeks before the fun ride WC is a strategic decision we're unlikely to want to change.
