Kudos to Gerald for his constant reporting and interaction about the event. It would be great if we could get this kind of dedication, passion and commitment from every race organiser.

I'm just one of the links in the chain - without a chain, you can pedal all you want - you'd eventually figure out how to get going, but not as fast or as efficient as you would be with a working chain.

Keep the chain lubed though by sending your comments, suggestions, complaints and all.

I've been told I'm entered with my team for this event, so I guess its 7 races in 8 weeks... No rest for the wicked.

By the way Gerald, when is the closing date for entries?

By the way Gerald, when is the closing date for entries? 10-Feb (next week Tuesday)

edit: only noticed now... follow us on Facebook and Twitter but not reference made to the links on printed material. Kind of defeats the purpose of having it without the links.

ALL pre-entries qualify for the two MTB's on offer, and not only those at are at prize giving. Previously, names were drawn from people still out on the course. Now everyone has a chance to win.

The draw will take place at Tour de Frans cycles and the winners will be contacted in the start batches for an informal interview with Henry (the man with the mic).

edit: pre-entries, not late entries

Right... considering that I am part of the seeding committee, I though I'd share how the seeding for the race will work, which races are used and everything else that matters:

  1. Formula used is INDEX = (( Your Time / Winner's Time ) - 1 ) * 100

  2. The following race organisers agreed to share their results:
    • All ChampionChip timed events for the past 12 months;
    • 2014 Carnival City Macsteel National Classic;
    • 2014 Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge;
    • 2014 Value Logistics FastOne;
    • 2014 Dome to Dome Cycle Race;
    • 2014 Serengheti Classic;
    • 2014 Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic;
    • Any other 2014 non-ChampionChip timed event where results are shared by the race organiser.

      If we get the 2015 results from the Fast One, we will use it.
  3. Each event is calculated using the formula.

  4. The average of the best 3 events (or less, if the cyclist has only 1 or 2 qualifying races) is then used to give a final VALUE that we will use.

  5. Every online entry received is then ranked from 1-xxx (where xxx equals the total number of entries).
    No.1 is assigned to the defending champion from 2014 - assuming he enters. I'm hoping to do the same for all the licensed categories).

  6. The race number is then allocated, by batch, according to the ranking number in descending order. There are limits to the size of each batch, so if your RANKING VALUE places you in the next batch, it due to the number of cyclists that have a better VALUE than you. You will know how many faster cyclists there are in your batch, based on your number in relation to the lowest in that group (best you suck their wheel if a time is important  :whistling:  :ph34r:).

Exceptions

I have seen a few duplicates, i.e. the INDEX value is identical, therefore the ranking value will also be the same (obviously the tandems have been excluded from the exceptions as they will have duplicate numbers). But this will be corrected manually as the number is less than 1.5% of the total entries (so far).

  • In some cases, it's a couple that might have completed previous events on a tandem (but have not entered this event as a tandem);
  • In other cases, some guys have started in different groups and finished on the same time - because they have only done 1 event, they have the same index value.

Everyone that has entered by 14:00 yesterday has had their INDEX/RANKING VALUE calculated. By the time entries close next week, most of the entries will have been seeded.

Once you get your number, and you suspect an error you may want to query it. This can be done at registration at the ChampionChip table, BUT make sure you have all your ducks in a row because mine are packed and ready to go - and mine have a BIG bite. I won't be there, but the ChampionChip guys will be fully prepared.

Hope this sheds some light on how it's done.

Gerald, based on the above, please comment on the prudence or otherwise of the following proposed race race strategy for lazy shlumps: if the guy/ girl in front of you has a lower race no than you, then suck his / her wheel/s. If yours is lower, dump him / her and find lower numbered entrants to bunch with.

Ps: to the hub general public. I am not seeking input on the morality of the proposal or whether its selfish / repugnant, unsportsmanlike and all. I am just asking whether it would be theoretically effective in improving ones time.

Pps: Gerald, what about Argus 2014. Doesn't count?

There's more than one way to skin a cat, and the seeding is the same.

As far as the faster/slower riders goes, it's merely a poke in the ribs, as every race would have to be included, and then use recent form. Given the data we have, the hierarchy is created.

P.S. no comment - just pedal.

P.P.S. some events said Yes, others said "no", while a few didn't reply. The best was the one event that said "up yours, it's confidential info and we're not sharing it". All they had to say was "no". For the record, the Argus didn't reply.

It is hard to understand that. Surely they are not in direct competition with you. It can even be seen as something they can use for advertising.

I have to admit that I am very interested to know which race it is.

How much confidential can it be, its listed on CC/Racetc website for all to see.
