Indoor Trainers

Hey Hubbers.

I'm a Durban youngster that has just joined a coach. My parents aren't big on letting me out on the road alone; which I understand. however that does mean that I need to get a trainer soon. With not too much money to spend; I'm currently looking at either a Giant Cyclotron or Cycleops Mag Trainer. So far besides Cycleops being maybe better in their specific field; however the Giant has a handlebar remote; I'm not really sure what to go for?

I only have a MTB (650B); and so wheel size also has to be taken into account. However hopefully going to 29 again soon.

Thanks; any other advice or options are appreciated.

Try to meet other mtb riders to train with. I find that if I have to train on my trainer I get the sudden urge to quit cycling, it is literally one of the worst things ever.

Where in KZN do you stay, Northwood school in Durban North has a team maybe your parents can go have a chat with some of the teachers and let you train with them

I am part of the Northwood team; our school coach got me to join a cycling specific coach.

If the OP has started working with a coach there WILL be intervals on the trainer happening sometime.

Intervals for breakfast, lunch and dinner  :D

I have a Giant Cyclonton and it does all a trainer needs to unless you want to train with power. Just bare in mind that the Giant last time I checked could not take a 29er wheel with a MTB tyre. You could and I would suggest getting a spare rear wheel and fit it with trainer specific road tyre as to reduce the noise and save your tyres.

Thanks; and yes the spare wheel will be another thing.
