Everything you say makes sense. Consider this, Kfc, steers, Mercedes Benz, Ford etc, have client numbers in the millions. Kfc about 50 million. Bicycles, popular as they are, wont even reach a million. Not even close.

So all this fanboy Spesh stuff means nothing? You've been going on and on and on about how great Spesh are. Or did I read that wrong?

Spesh will survive and prosper, even if you move to Canyon. New buyers will replace you in the fancy stores because a guy spending 60k plus on a bike or 3,500 on a pair of shoes doesn't want to do it in an over crowded, cramped shop falling over 6 other brands.

Main Road Kenilworth, just down the road from where Pam Golding used to be.

Cyclefunatic is in Durbanville and Cycology is on main road Keniworth??

where did I mention the store down the roads name.....?

Read the thread again, you quoted me, said BS and referred to a store being built. I initially said the "latest casualty"? Who would that be?

no offence but I think you need to go back and read a few of the previous post. You may find many of the points you made have been touched on.

Especially read the Golefty post where Spez tells Bridge all is ok and then pulls the mat from under their feet.

He would raher bad mount of criticise people than contribute anything usefull.

Another fact: there are more bicycles sold in SA in a year than motor vehicles.....

The industry is changing. Whether we like it or not. Who still mourns the death of the corner grocer? Now we have 24-7 convenience stores and large grocery stores that is open from 9 to 9. What about the butcher? Woollies and Spar now sells meat. The moms and pops bike shop will die a slow death. While it is sad on some levels it is even more concerning that these shops are not re inventing themselves to adapt with the times. Remember when car dealers bought a variety of brands and stocked their show room floors? No? Its because that model changed after WW2 to what we now see as the equivalent of Concept Stores in Cycling. Some motor cycle dealerships still use the antiquated model of stocking a variety of brands on their floors purely because volume of motor bike sales means that exclusively in this regard is not sustainable. What about department stores? Remember when Stuttafords in Adderley Street was a big deal?

The way we are buying bikes is changing. The market is outgrowing the current model and exclusivity is becoming not only viable, but essential as well. Hopefully the agency model will be ditched by more of the mainstream cycling brands to make way for direct representation. The alternative will be online channels. Savvy retailers will look at a way to move with the times or move on. We will probably tell our grandchildren about the good old days when we popped in at the LBS. We can chose to be nostalgic about it or we can recognize that the world is changing.

No, you didnt read at all. Spez bikes are great. I have 4.

Spez is a brand and i can just assume that they look at a bike shop as their representive. If the shop does not physically reflect that which they want their brand to be associated with i will say from a business point of view they are within their right to pull their brand out.

Its like shopping at woolies or the portugese cafe around the corner. Both might sell the same type of product but the one gives the perseption that its better by being more expensive and by appearing upmarket thereby pulling a diffrent... do i dare say it... class of customer.

The shop has to look after the clients with its service and the bike manufacturers have to look after their brand.

You really are a douchebag. They employ useless staff, their products are overpriced, and they think the sun shines out of their asses.

Same type of argument you had with The Sheriff a few days ago. Attacking me as a douchebag just confirms the paucity of your thought process.

For days you've been raving on about how Spesh is the greatest bicycle brand ever, now they are over priced products sold by useless staff. Which is it?

Listen Chinese 29er, I have always stated they make great bikes. Also, I have been against concept stores from the start. Go read the thread, and dont come here guns blazing.

Ease up on the Whiskey friend.

Satisfy my curiosity, what is a Whiskey friend?

Try to lift the level of your debate, please. Personal insults and accusations of intoxication are a little infantile.

Can't we keep the insults intelligent at least? [emoji8]

Every story has two sides. I've heard that the latest "casualty" has had 3 years of pressure to convert to Concept store (a well communicated and documented strategy of Spez SA). The shop resisted and Spez eventually gave an ultimatum.

#justsaying

Again, who according to Your Holiness His Sageness GoLefty I is "the latest casualty"? Simple question, simple answer please.
