Accident in Lakeside this morning

Guys,

I would just like to relay an incident that transpired whilst cycling down the Main Road in Lakeside this morning.

My buddy was knocked by a car, who overtook him and then turned into a side street. I was witness to the accident. I arrived on the scene and saw that the driver was proceeding to drive away! I waved and shouted at the driver, who proceeded to drive off.

He looked "okay", and was being attended to by another friend.

I then gave chase and caught up with the driver as she was getting out of her vehicle at a property around the corner.

When I challenged her, she claimed innocence and stated that she had no idea that she had cut him off!

Another vehicle then pulled up and the occupants then confirmed what she had done, in fact stating that the driver was on her cellphone - they also gave their details as witnesses - sir, you mentoned you are a cyclist, if you're on The Hub - thank you.

Thankfully he is okay, barring a bruised cocyx, road rash and damage to his bicycle.

What sickens me is that this woman just drove off.

He has laid a charge at Police Station - let's see what good that does.

That's so flippen frustrating.

(not to hi-jack the post)

Two young girls on a Scooter skipped a red.  I t-boned them at 35km/h with my MTB.

I was out, when I came regained consciousness, I asked for her licence at which point she and her friend raced off.

A witness got the licence number.

R14k damage to my bike, excluding hospital bill, I pressed charges.

They found the owner and culprits.

Even with my and the witness's statement, Bellville Police refused to press charges.

Go figure if one sees the rotten (corrupt) apples at the stations in the news.

(end high-jack)

Hope your buddy is okay.

Get a bull terrier of a lawyer to nail this bitch.

Drivers like this woman that sideswiped your mate, are a flippin menace. I have seen it too often where the idiot driver, rather than wait 5 seconds, decides to hurry past, hit brakes and turn across your line.

I console myself with the fact that there is a thing called karma. One day,it will be her turn to feel the pain.

Also, remember that cycling shoes can do some serious damage to a car.

How can the cops refuse to lay charges? Isn't it up to a court to decide this?

Thats almost the exact same place were we were t-boned by a drunk driver, who proceded to flee the scene. We laided a charge a Muizenberg police station and nothing ever came of it. Hope your buddy has better luck.
