Hi Eddy

I purchased the second last Apidura bag locally.  They are very, very expensive to import at almost double the advertised price.

If you don't come right, you can borrow mine for a trip into that part of the world only - very special.

I plan to make a pattern and perhaps have some made locally if I can find the correct fabric.  I got mine from Yknot, Liesel @ 012  3459260.  Last one left so hurry.

(Just make sure you are seated when you hear the price)

Looks like these guys have a range of suitable fabrics? http://www.linings.co.za/Web/Default.aspx

Hi Sepia, seeing that you are in Durban maybe you should try and find an old unused spinnaker sail from the harbor or  surrounds. as far as I know it is a light and very strong material. Might work.

Hi More Wood

Had a keeler myself and the spinny fabric is too thin.  Maybe the storm jib kinda thing? Good thinking as I plan to make a couple using the design from the Apidura I receive today.

Sepia

is the design a state secret? Mind sharing?

We cycled up the Sani Pass in September, did the Sani Dragon 2 day stage race...

We k@ked to get to the top on just our bikes alone, then, just as we reached the top... we came across these two ouks...

They came up Sani Pass same us, FULL gear!

They been cycling for 4 years now, started off in China and on their way to Cape Town, I asked them where to then?

They just laughed and said, they will be flying back home... must be the best experience to be able to do something like this...

It takes guts to commit to do something like this. You quit your job, leave your wife, say goodbye to friends and family, plan the trip ... and off you go!

And after you've been away for a certain amount of time, safer to keep on riding rather than going back to the missus to face the music?

Jeepers!  Those guys are not travelling light.  They must have titanium knee joints...

OK, with it being crazy internet buying day and all, I just pulled the trigger on revelate viscacha seat bags for me and my riding partner.

Our little biketrip in December from West Coast to East Coast is taking shape nicely.

We have received approval from respective Managements to go riding from boxing day to new year's eve.

New route:  st Helena; veldrif; piketberg; porterville; gouda; wolseley; Worcester; villiersdorp; theewaterskloof dam; Caledon; hemel & aarde valley; hermanus.  The idea is that as much as possible will be gravel but google is TERRIBLE for planning gravel, so I have order foldup maps from mapstudio.

We are still deciding whether to ride mtb's or touring bikes but his touring bike is unfinished, so probably on dualsus 29er mtb's.

It's amazing how many people do things like this, and you only find out about them by accident.

Like the dutch guy with his dog in "Mellons, Trucks, and Angry Dogs."

Ive been shopping around for months, trying to find the right touring bike and have finally decided on the Surly ECR. Most the touring around here will be long gravel roads, I haven't ridden a 29+ bike before, but only heard great things about it.

Unfortunately have to wait until February to pickup the bike in SA.

Great choice - this and the Krampus are perfect for SA conditions
