HI

i need to buy a security door for our bedroom before i move in, just want to know if there is really a difference in the cheap xpanda door versus the Trellidor or Maxidor ? and is it worth the money going for the more expensive one ?

get a trellidor if you are serious about safety.

the other doors are not worth it

edit: just installed some doors in my house, xpanda is not that much cheaper as the quote was R6k less on the total of R35k

Make sure they use proper bolts to fix the frame of the trellidor to the frame of the doorway. Typical way of getting through a trellis type security gate is to take a crowbar and force the frame on the other side of the lock off the wall. Then they slide the gate open from the opposite side.

If you use proper bolts into the wall this type of entry won't/shouldn't be possible.

which is why I said get a proper Trellidor fitted, they way its fitted you cannot pry it off the wall

If you want more price conscious then go for the maxidoor second range, cant think of the name. Its a bit bulkier than the top of the range but stronger.

It is just as good as the trellidoor.

I have broken into my house a few times with other gates, have never gotten past this one and i have tried.

Old style gates took 2min.

I don't like ether... 5mm steel is better...

Expandable doors do not do well against a scissor jack... (ok, not much does)

thus is exactly what the drols did at my last house. The door had no chance.

My internal security gate is 5mm steel - and you will need to break at least 3 slats loose to get through it - that or take it out the wall.... not going to be that easy without making a noise.

The lock is fully enclosed in 5mm tube, and the lock is protected by 5mm fully welded plates front and back. - built by my mate for me - who I will reccomend to anybody in Jhb looking for steelwork. It's probably not impregnable, but it's better than nothing....

And I also have plates for padlocks in addition to the yale type slam lock to use when we are away.

Hi

Personally I think american shutters (https://www.americanshutters.co.za/aluminium-security-shutters/) are better than trellidor when it comes to security shutters, but as far as gates and that go they are still the best and affordable.

Was surprised they were not as expensive as i thought.

Anyone have some decent recommendations for roller shutters that are not trellidor? had them previously and was not happy with the fitting around the doors.

thanks

When I bought my last security gate 10+ years ago the Maxidor was better quality than the Trellidor.

The strength is in the top and bottom horizontal rails and the two vertical fixing rails. After that its pretty much a nightmare to get through it because all the middle bits are captive in the tracks.

If the horizontal tracks are weak then they just smash the track and bend the gate up from the bottom.
