11spd Cassette on 10spd Freebody

No.

11 speed is wider and needs an 11 speed compatible freehub body. Should be available separately.

Edit: that is true for road. Shimano 11spd mtb stuff fits on 8/9/10 freehub. Shimano coned the inside gear on the 11spd stuff so they gain some width on the inside. Road cassettes are too small to cone properly so you need a new 11 spd freehub for road cassettes.

check to see if there are any spacers fitted behind the cassette... if there is you may be able to fit a 11spd cassette.

If not then you will need a new freehub

In general no for a road hub - there are some exceptions though, so it's worth checking your specific hubs. I had to replace mine, but I know some who have not needed too. I

Thought so.

Any idea what an American Classic freebody costs?

I think RRP is about R800.

Be careful with the 11-10 spacer - some cassettes have a thin spacer. The 11 to 10 speed "converter" spacer is ~1.8mm thick. The normal spacer is much thinner.

I have just been through the same exersize.

You might also need another axle thingy ( not sure what it is called).

You should ask Wyatt for the specifics as I do not know the details.

interesting read on the rear-hub (for road bikes)

and from this article itself, it'll be new rear-hub / wheelset for many of us (should one choose to upgrade to 11speed :\)

Yep - depends on your hub, some have a replaceable freebody. Mine unluckily not, so I got both sets rebuilt with new hubs. Luckily I have a top notch wheelbuilder close by ;)

BTW - how apt. I think this is one of the few threads on The Hub actually discussing hubs ...
