Our Sales and Marketing Director bought a new bike with a Through Axle.  He wasn't keen to pay the R600 they asked at the shops for the Swedish bracket, so he asked me if my Apprentices needed a new project to work on...

2 hours later and we had this.  So if anyone else is needing one I can work out the costing, but it won't be anywhere near R600....

There was a guy here recently looking for a 20mm, i think.

I will definitely be keen on a 15 mm thru axle.

This one was 15mm.  I know this because I have an invoice on my desk from our stores for a 15mm reamer

Definitely, and what's really impressive is that the guys who made it are all first-years from the local community.  There are some seriously talented Artisans being trained in SA, it's just going to take another 5 years or so before they start impacting on the economy.

No for sure - our speciality isn't making bike racks, so you might find that the cost of only a few will be too much, and then it will be worth going to Holdfast.  But I'll check anyway.  I might even be tempted to turn out a few 100 on the CNC!

That guy there was me. I need a 20mm T/A one...Thule has them for 700 bucks, Holdfast doesn't supply 20mm but they can do the 15mm ones at around R400.00.

No hell, my rough guess is probably around R250 or so.  The most expensive part was the aluminium end pieces - and only because I was worried that the fork might get scratched.  Give me a day or so!

Seeing as I don't have a 20mm TA fork to use as a sample, I might need you to take a piece of Prestik, wet it, and then push it up against the inside of the fork leg (I'm assuming they will be the same L and R) so that I can get an accurate impression of what the male part of the bracket must look like.  If you can do that, take a pic and post it here, then I can get the measurements.....

This is the shape of the Thule one. 110mm width, no weird end pieces. I think getting the correct internal diameter is going to be the tricky bit.

I have 2 of the Holdfast 15mm T/A ones. They work well. On your sample shown in this fred I would suggest making the foot as wide as possible in the direction of the axle centreline (i.e. even wider than the axle length) and then give some thought to placing the bolt holes as far as possible from the bike's centreline for better stability on the rack and reduced tensile forces on the bolts.
