Thanks Nige, what I have been saying summed up in one simple sentence .

"HOWEVER - the guys altering them by riding off line on a FREE trail are Knobs in my book"

Are you now trying to tell me what part of a post I should choose to comment on or not .

Did we not both determine that the guys who go offline are knobs and the guys who assume every "noob" will know all the rules are also knobs ?

A Note from IMBA on how not to be a Tjop.

  1. Leave No Trace: Be sensitive to the dirt beneath you. Wet and muddy trails are more vulnerable to damage than dry ones. When the trail is soft, consider other riding options. This also means staying on existing trails and not creating new ones. Don't cut switchbacks. Be sure to pack out at least as much as you pack in.

I hope the fairies don't stop building because of this thread. It would suck if people turned the spruit BACK into a drag strip of dirt.

Fixed.

If you dont have permission to build and the trails are illegal then you cant really complain if they are altered.

I think people are forgetting that the Fairies who built the Spruit did so in the dim and distant past. I've never actually seen one of these mythical creatures at work, but I can say that I rode much the same Spruit in the 1970's... Not too much has changed.

Any subsequent Fairy is actually building over the previous Fairy and the Fairy before him going right back to the Primo Fairy.

So there is a constant altering going on. Some good IMHO, and some not so much.

And I will also say (in answer to the OP) that a lot of the straight lines are made by riders skirting a muddy (and sometimes effluvient) corner. The curve tends to reappear when the muddy puddle has dried up.

I am actually very glad you answered like this, shows how badly you misunderstand the conversation.

I was referring to the "noobs" and "beginners" in my post, trying to educate you with the fact that I actually try and help people grow to become better riders .

So the part where you said  "...than some arrogant Strava chaser (That was for you Nolipoli)" was not trying to imply that I am one of those? mmmmmkay.....

That aside, I am very glad that you educate the new riders to rather take the turns slowly than smash the berms to pieces by going straight. Now if you could also educate the experienced riders that just don't care, that would be amazing!

Thought I'd get in before it's locked or deleted..... Last one made 8 pages. Wonder how for this will go....

I give this thread two more pages at most......  oh dear

Times have changed

Regarding the "fairies", there is actually an interesting interview in the latest Tread magazine with the current chief fairy. Interesting read.
