Average 91%-94% of max in a race of 3h and longer. Consistent over years. Training is much lower except when racing the manne on the Cyclops "online racing". There I can get similar numbers ( I dont think that is normal training though).

do u get a lower avg online, which is harder for you?

Online my HR average matches what my race avg was 10 yrs ago in 2 - 3 hr events, but doubt i can push the same avg for as long as i used to...maybe one day again.

Longest online race was about 75 min

My MHR is around 198, and I average around 175 when racing.

I have tried zone training but really struggled to stay within the specified zone. After listening to my Bryton beep for about 15mins I abandoned the exercise. Now I try and average my training rides at between 155-165 and obviously do a few intervals now and then.

Anybody have a structured training program?

Great topic

My resting heart rate is around 38-44. I aint that fit, always generally had a slow heart rate. My body starts going into overdrive from around 150 bpm though so there is a lower ceiling.

I generally average around 125-130 in a race, with my heart rate sometimes dropping below 80 .. for instance the 94.7 my average was 127 in a 3:20 event. max was 153 and lowest was around 68. My mate had an average of 155 and was 20 minutes slower so HR is very individual. I am 49 btw

best is to get set up for you personally, we all different

My resting heart rate is also in the low 40's. Never seen it go below 40, but then again I have never measured it first thing in the morning. When I first started cycling my max was around 162, but with training my max heart rate now sits at 174. I am 31 for what it is worth.

For races I generally average 90% of my max.

Just a question to those who know a bit about Heart Rate when cycling or exercising in general....Is it better to have higher Heart Rate or not..if you know what I'm getting at.

I'm 49 and I can only get my MHR up to 156, so what does that mean.

You have a larger than normal crank shaft radius.....

For interest sake what is your resting heart rate?

I have a max HR of 188bpm and once did an hour in a TT at 181bpm. My usual 100km race avg is 168-172bpm. Unless I'm cruising and hiding.

Chilling at the moment with a cup of tea. Going to test it on the weekend again during a race on Sunday.

RHR is best taken lying down comfortably and early in the day before you eat / drink, after you had a pee... Which ever protocol u use to make sure you follow the same protocol everytime as small little insignificant things can influence (increase) your RHR

MHR is best tested in a specific individual test where its just your effort and you can ride untill u drop

Race HR...depending on the type of race can be usefull to estimate your LTH / FTP but not ideal for MHR
