Hello guys I will be coming in Pretoria before January.

I am in high school and my parents told me to check out schools before they check them by themselves.

I've noticed a fair amount of interest from south-africans towards sports in schools, thing is I love moutain biking, road and bmx alike and I would like to apply for a school that competes in a mtb league (I found the spur league), problem is all the school I found that explicitly said they compete in that league are Afrikaanse.

1 are they any English school competing in mtb or road near Pretoria ?

2 would a perfectly normal kid (that doesn't know dutch) that speaks French and English fluently,

survive in an Afrikaanse school ?

3 should i just go to an cyclingsa club afterschool ?

(I have been told that we will reside near ''Brooklyn'' for an extended period of time)

Thanks alot.

from the city of the atomium with kind regards, Antoine.

Hi

If you are staying in Brooklyn, then Pretoria Boys High School may be a good option.

I will check more options today and PM you.

As far as Afrikaans schools are concerned, unless its a dual medium (Afrikaans/English), as most schools are now moving towards, I don't think you'll manage

Yup. Pretoria Boys High is a very good school. If I could spoken the english language more better than I would off proply went theres...

Another vote for Pretoria Boys High School. Great school, and there is a little bit of trail on the school grounds you can ride. They don't offer mtb as an official sport, but perhaps you could get it going as a school club (they are very keen on clubs at PBHS).

You'll be find in PBHS even if it is on the wrong side of the rail road..... and its a great high school. Affies will unfortunately not be an option as us boere don't do well with no dutch speaking individuals. Not a lot of schools offer MTB as an official sport, but at least the there are ALOT of local races.

Be prepared for Load shedding so bring along your candles and matches you'll need it...

The weather is great and you can ride through winter without battling snow.

Thanks alot for the answers, I will check out PBHS for sure.

I am a bit worried about the level of PBHS being too high because i am more of a sport/computer guy, never was the best at school...

Anyway,

Keep on shredding dirt ;)) will be there before new year.

Edit: I took so long to answer because I don't get notifications or mails about people posting on my topic it is very annoying, will fix it myself.

He's from Belgium they are massively afraid of a load shedding winter this year so his panick levels should be fine.

I will comment on my main expertise 2 I doubt you will be ok as you haven't learn't dutch in Belgium which is a main and official language. Its from a different language group then French as well so not that easy to learn for you. You will have already a lot on your hands with moving to a new place and a new continent rather pick an english school a languae which you seem to be mastering decently. And pick up the afrikaans along the way.
