Has anyone been shipping any slightly larger wheel shaped objects up and down recently and who did you use?

Post Office is a good start I guess but I'm wondering how much protection is needed!

People have talked about cyclelab shipping stuff between stores before but again never done it or should I try to convince someone to drag them down on a plane with their kicking a screaming christmas brood!

Any advice is good advice! Have searched the threads and found bits and pieces but not too much current.

Cheers all and the floor is open!

It'll cost more to use a courier but at least it is likely to arrive...I would not trust the post office personally, they'll either strike and the wheels will be obsolete when you eventually see them or they're likely to steal them if they do bother going in to work.

They are 26ers so apparently the are already obsolete and thieves seem to only be stealing 29ers at the moment! ;)

You're right. That option would be last resort.

Just asked a similar question last week, I'm getting a bike shipped from EL to JHB. Another hubber passed on details for Triptych, who specializes in bike transportation. The cost ended up being about 50% of what Time Freight was. Bike is probably only going to arrive here early next week due to all the holidays, but the initial dealings with Andrew (from Triptych) have been positive. Apparently they handle a lot of shipping for Bontrager & Trek and move a lot of bikes for the Epic.

Not sure if they'd do wheels, but probably worth finding out.

PM me if you want Andrew's direct contact details, will pass them on.

Time Freight will in all probability be the cheapest and will collect and deliver to your door

Evening Hubbers

I'm looking at the possibility of importing wheels from the Democratic Republic of Gauteng.

Can somebody just give me a ballpark figure of a reliable courier (eg. Time Freight, Tryptych, etc.)

Also - does the said courier provide boxing for the wheels or should the sender provide it?

Xoc.co.za

I ordered something from howick on Thursday, and it was delivered on Friday at noon. I paid for 2-3days delivery, so was very impressed for it to arrive so soon at my door

Just an update:

I used Triptych Resources to courier wheels from GP to WC. They organised a bikeshop/bikeshop drop/collect service which allowed for (1) wheels packing by bike shop at point A and (2) wheels checking / tyre fitting at point B.

The cost was R240 and the service was excellent so I could definately recommend them for bike part courier services!
