I really don't rant much, Im a pretty positive person BUT when you do something silly that nearly takes you out then I will voice my opinion. Let me explain.

I was cycling today on the cycle lane past Milnerton in the direction on Cape Town and as I was coming through the corner I suddenly see 2 cyclists riding next to each other through the corner leaving me no place to go. Luckily the one riders has the quick reaction to do a move that quite honestly could have ended with serious if not life threatening consequences. He came off the path, over the pavement and on to the main road. Buddy you were so lucky there was not a car or Cargo truck next to you at that time, Im pretty sure you would have been tickets. I know you said sorry as you went flying over the pavement but really two riders next to each other in a corner is a bit silly but Im glad nothing bad happened to you. Please guys and girls just a bit of common sense and courtesy on the path. We all want to enjoy our holidays on the bike and not end up in hospital

Probably going to argue he had it full well under control. Spider sense on max. Pity it wasn't able to detect self-stupidity.

I'm waiting for the day twirps like those force other cycle lane users to choose life or limb when traversing that bridge just past paddocks en route to blouberg. It's mighty damn narrow.

Some of these cyclists have deductive reasoning capabilities of poor design.

IOW: don't blame the lane for other peoples' stupidities

Fully agreed Mayhem: the majority of the whole cycle lane provides more than enough space, if everyone just forgets their conveniences and ride single file and at an appropiate speed. The majority do it quite naturally I must admit, but damn, there are some atrocious behaviours out there from a few. Entitlement issues again.

The guy apologised. Probably feeling like a real mamery. Why ruk die dam? Now entitlement issues are mentioned, etc. Grow up, you do not know whether that other guy has learnt his lesson or not.

Even if he had learnt his lesson, the fact of the matter is that there are many, many people in RSA at the moment who believe that because they pay tax, f*** you. That's an entitlement problem through and through, and it pervades each and every segment of society.

They cycle, run, drive, buy goods and live life as per normal. The only difference is that they believe the sun shines out their asses and they are able to do anything they want because "f*** you, that's why"

It's time that these idiots are taught a lesson in common courtesy and sense. So no, there's no "growing up" to do other than on the part of those small minded self important bigots who never got told "no" as a lightie and went through adolescence thinking they can do whatever the hell they want to.

As is your quote. "F*** you as you never learnt your lesson, blah blah". He made a mistake, acknowledged it, but still is a small minded so-and-so. Worst is, these assumptions are made by someone who wasn't there, reading a rant of a guy who didn't really watch the path where he'll be in a short while (ask a biker what I mean) and the final insult sitting behind a keyboard dishing out pearls of "wisdom".

I have also had a "near death esxperience" exactly there once. Also guys riding abreast. Lucklily I was suffering into the wind and was going slow, if we were both going the same speed it would have been a diffrent outcome.

Oh. So its okay because he apologised. Got it. Makes EVERYTHING alright again.

Btw - I'm sure Capricorn was drawing a tangent between this behaviour, and the overall issue of entitlement with people who feel it's okay to do this regardless of whether they apologise or not, as they believe that it is their (insert deity here) given right to do as they please no matter the threat or effect it had on othrr users of the road.

It's that entitlement that we must fight. It's that entitlement that is ruining society as a whole. It's that entitlement thay clogs up intersections because "it's just me" and allows people to think it's okay to run red lights or stop streets, or dodge the lowering train crossing booms and drive in the yellow lane between freeway exits because "it's just me and this space is open and it's not inconvenient to anyone"

In short. This guy may have apologised, but he was being a dick. He also endangered the lives of those coming in the opposite direction as can be seen by him having to dodge into the road when someone came at him while he was chatting to his buddy and instead of slowing up and slotting in to where he should have been in the forst place. If he had held his line, like MANY do? Would you have said it's okay because he apologised, even though he forced the OP into the face of oncoming traffic?

Hehehehehe mayhem, seems you rev easy. Seriously though, oke apologised and hopefully learnt his lesson. And if he hasn't then hey, karma is a beetch. I just tried to show that a generalization was made. Which capricorn clearly showed is very possible.....
