anyone know what the story is with this revision of the type 2 mech?

According to this snippet of the product description on Bike24:

Thanks to Roller Bearing Clutch featuring a revised cage pin the SRAM X9 TYPE 2.1 derailleur eliminates more effectively bounce and chain slap without sacrificing precision.

Didn't realize there was a major problem with the original revision of the type 2, and SRAM itself is pretty mum.

Anyone have further insights? Much appreciated

I see an improvement on the Type 2 if I read that paragraph. How did you come to the conclusion that there is a major problem?

must be lost on you that changes cost money. There must be some motivation other than a sticker update to warrant the cost of a change to a product line, hence a problem.

Wouldn't have needed an improvement if there wasn't a problem with the original design...

Maybe, but materials get better and new ideas come up to improve something even if it is not broken or anything wrong with it.

Not lost on me. I asked how you made the conclusion that something is wrong with the Type 2?

Materials get better and companies keep on innovating that is why they change things. It is better than the previous version, which doesn't mean the previous version has got a problem. So people upgrade. You make more money and you can charge more.

So nothing is lost on me, I just understand the business rationale.

Neither.

Looking at the pic of the RD, it's JUST the cage pin that's been changed. Must be a significant enough improvement to warrant the replacement of that single item instead of waiting for the next iteration of the Type 2 mechs

This.

or why not just roll it out as type 2? Granted, I imagine there being a marketeering opportunity calling it type 2.1, dupe folks who love the latest and shiniest, into spending more $$$.

But dont jump off a semantics cliff again Newboy: all this is based on simple curiousity.

Anyone know if the type 2.1 clutch can be adjusted like on the type 2.0?

Nope. It looks the same, but there's a pin holding the clutch in place that shreds the clutch housing if you try to adjust it.

Thanks droo....

I see the pin[emoji4] [emoji4] ......no way to remove the pin. Hmmm that's interesting.

Seems the difference between 2.0 and 2.1.. clutch could be serviced in 2.0 but in 2.1 Sram made it harder for users to so this... haha
