I've always wanted to do an Ironman. I think i must just commit myself and enter it as soon as the entries open-up this year.

But that open water swim scares the Crap out of me. I dont live near the sea, so i have to do all my swim training in our local School's swimming pool.

Its not so much the open water that messes with you but the other swimmers and the mess that the start always is.

There is live coverage going on still, I like watching at this time of day to see what real pain is and how people fight through it.

Hi there.  First of all, good luck all athletes participating at the Ironman South Africa tomorrow.  Secondly, please consider using our app, IMtrackr to track your favorite Ironman athletes during the race or tell your friends to download IMtrackr app and get your race split updates via push notification.  IMtrackr is available for both iOS && Android flavor, and you can download it via the links below:

iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/za/app/imtrackr-ironman-athlete-tracking/id836182662

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.r2integration.imtrackr

Thanks.  Have a great race.

The app was disappointing to say the least. Often could not find athletes, sometimes only after several searches.

Splits were displayed inconsistently. Sometimes leg time, sometimes race time. Different athletes were displayed differently.

I did like that search would display variants of the name in case you typed the name incorrectly.

Overall needs work but will be very nice when done.

Looks like it was a tough day out on the bike. Most of the Pro's were significantly slower on the second half of the second lap to the first. As they are all probably riding to power numbers would mean that wind picked up dramatically.

Only about 1600 finishers. Also dramatically down from previous year.

First time finisher here! Was a tough day but an amazing experience.

Interested to hear other riders thoughts but for me the 2nd lap on the bike was definitely tougher than the first. It was hotter and windier and the hills took it out of me. Maybe i also battled a little with the mental challenge of riding 180kms on your own. But i got through it...

Overall great day out... My tri bike won't be on sale just yet!

I am an IRONMAN...then cried like a puppy on the carpet.....

Congrats to every participant. Well done to all Ironmen and women. To those like Dean who were unable to finish, i still take my hat off to you for all your hard work and preparation to get that far. Next year the finish line will taste that much sweeter.

Never ever...maybe

I had a great race..swim went well, cycle was tough but went well...then the run went belly up due to a knee problem I picked up 2 or 3 weeks ago that I thought was sorted...my nutrition went well, hydration well..took a couple of 5 minute stops on the cycle leg to regroup...everything went well until the run...I must have the longest run in history of iron man ;)

High drop out rate wow....don't understand why specifically..the cycle was tough ish but doable but saw loads of bikes been transported.... Then a number must of been cut off as I was completing my first lap and there was still ppl cycling through...

2 things though .....rule of no slipstreaming and no littering....both were broken all over the place.... Sometimes blatantly

Congrats to all that finished! I had to pull out half way through the bike due to a knee injury unfortunately. But was there supporting all of you for hours :)

Live to fight another day...will you enter again?

Well done man....I think entering iron man is victory in itself....

By the way ...Jodie swallow handed my medal and gave me a hug and a kiss....of course I had no idea who she was..my wife told me later....

Haha. It is a very cool tradition of IMSA that the winners come back to hand out medals at the end of the evening. That final hour is magical.
