  1. Long shot but I lost a pair of sunglasses on Friday evening somewhere in newlands forest / constantia while MTB'ing home They are a cheap ish brand but a pain in the arse to lose all the same If you find please let me know and i'll shout you a beer as thanks
  2. I think there's a group that leaves 5.30am from Sea point pool every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Never joined them but they are always there when i brave the cold mornings...
  3. You'll have to buy offshore - i used Bike24 last time as they were the cheapest vs the half dozen online shops i compared against in the US and Europe. But it was a while ago so things may have changed...
  4. Ex Aussie/Sydneysider here... i would have offered to take you round the point if it was a weekend but see its mid week and i will have work You can't go wrong just following the ocean from Green point to hout bay to chappies etc... its a spectacular ride and there's plenty of good cafes/coffee shops along the way
  5. Anyone interested in going from Southern Suburbs (Rondebosch/Newlands) to Cape Town (Sea Point or City) on any weekday evenings leaving around 5.30pm? Or going the reverse in the mornings leaving around 6am? Happy to do mtb or road but preference would prob be mtb to stay off the roads as it's all in the dark at the moment...
  6. I had a case the other day where a driver overtook me across a solid white line going around a blind corner (while i was driving and slowing down for a stop sign i new was coming up 20-30m later). He went through the stop sign/junction without stopping and sped up the street going maybe 80/100kph in a 50 zone. About 500 meters later he had parked and was talking to someone in front of his house - i stopped and wound down the window to ask him what he was thinking and he immediately got aggressive, told me to f off and that he was running late. I had my wife in the car so didn't want to put her in danger but took his car licence plate details and drove off. I've reported it to the arrive safely / road awareness hotline but not sure what they can do. If a car (or cyclist) was coming the other way its another tragedy with little repercussions on the driver at fault. The thing that stuck out for me was that its just general impatience from drivers that causing these "accidents". Until there's more awareness and drivers are held accountable its going to be more of the same every week. The truck driver probably didn't wake up this morning wanting to kill or injure a cyclist and this could be seen as an accident - and they might be having a very tough time now trying to process that. However the message needs to get across to drivers that if they hit cyclists (especially in the western cape where there is a 1m rule), they are at fault/liable and responsible for the death/injury of someone. And punishment needs to be severe enough to scare people into thinking twice before getting impatient and taking risks. Jail time and liable for costs/recovery. Saying all this i feel like we have the exact same thread every bloody accident.
  7. Tragic... The amount of accidents this year is unacceptable but feels like its just accepted and we are relatively helpless to stop them
  8. Surely leaving the scene implies some sort of guilt... But heard enough stories to know this isn't going to be the case. Hoping the video captures the car on the wrong side of the road or something else that supports prosecution.
  9. never had either... but wish i had the money to add that bianchi to my stable

    Bells

maybe its just me but i feel like a dick having to ring my bell (at least on any commutes on shared footpaths/roads)... in any case half the pedestrians don't respond or deliberately ignore it. i really wonder whats going on in their heads... "what's that strange bell sound that keeps going off behind me? ah sure its nothing important so i'll ignore it and keep blocking the way" i saw and liked the timber mtb bell online but was pricey and couldn't get it easily locally... i was actually looking for a london bike courier type bell that hangs off the saddle. basically a bike version of a cow bell that constantly goes off... but couldn't find one anywhere
  11. If only there was some organisation who's mission it was to act of the behalf of cyclists in this country
  12. i vote zipp 303s for cape town... question for those with these wheels (or other similar carbon clinchers)... do you ride these as every day wheels or just races?
  13. I also bought one this week from the gear change and very happy with its brightness... I support the gear change but i wish they or another lbs sold more trek/bontrager parts online. One thing i'm worried about is the rubber seat post attachment feels very flimsy/loose for a R850 light... Will see how it survives over time but i'll be angry if it falls off Note if you want to attach it to your helmet/saddle bag/anything else that isn't your seat post, you'll need to buy an attachment as it only comes with the seat post attachment. Didn't see any for sale at the gear change so guessing these would have to be ordered in, which i might do if they are cheap to be able to move the light easily between different bikes
  14. good luck sunday everyone... i'll be starting in 3d and trying to jump up a group or two to mates ahead of me, although the wind might say otherwise. out of curiosity, anyone know what group a F seeded PPA rider would start?
