Oh yes - If you havent ridden the trails yet ...

Look for these signs ...

Red and white is Enduro liaisons ...

Black 3 arrow Caution signs point to the DH access ... Remember for the DH and Enduro you CANT DRIVE ON SAPPI ROADS ...

DH - Shuttle up the Demagtenburg road to the top where the signs are - offload here and then follow the signs riding your bike to the DH start - its a 8 minute roll along a contour road in the forest.

Enduro - RIDE up the Demagtenburg Road (you lazy basterds) then turn left at the top where the DH dropoff is - Follow the red signs up the hill to the start of Rennes ...

Lekker so you guys are pulling in!

Since there will be a bunch of people camping at the club and the bar will be open, the plan is to have a braai on SATURDAY evening after the enduro event.

IT IS NOT CATERED, so bring your own meat and salads (or whatever else you plan to eat) and there will be braais available at the club. Pub will be open as mentioned so please support the club by purchasing your beverage of choice from the pub.

Jip, all 3 of us will be there camping and ouma is coming along to babysit while we are riding.

Great so braai it is on Sat evening.

Sien julle ouens daar!

I might just give the DH race a go, is there any link to a vid for Karkloof DH perhaps? Can't find on YouTube.

So amped for enduro 1!!

I'll try to put together some old footage I have of the track together this evening (if I get a chance) to give you an idea of what it consists of. There is nothing new on the track, so no new rock gardens. The last pines section has just been tweaked a bit to slow things down.

Also some of the bigger obstacles (the road gap and a jump or 2 are NOT in for the event) and every other obstacle has a B-line around it so that the entire track can be rolled (on any bike).

TBH though the track is very trail bike friendly and all of the jumps which will feature in the event have been done on a hardtail jump bike. Also keep in mind that you don't have to hit any of them and you can simply treat the DH event as an organized shuttle day (with medical backup and marshals on track).

For now though check out an old vid of Hylt Turvey (the tracks creator). It shows a lot of the features on the track.

Nigel / Dave - any reason for the registration to close so early. Wasn't planning on a run on the day before the event, so would rather be getting up to KK at between 11.30 and 12.

For ENDURO - you do not need to practice the stages before hand

For DH - You NEED TO DO minimum 2 runs during OFFICIAL practice on Sunday Morning to be allowed to race ...

So for DH you need to be there early anyway to do your practice runs.

But its actually all logistics dude ... We need to pay for people to run registration per hour, then pay for timing guys per hour etc etc ....

Also remember that we only have 3 main people running EVERYTHING at the event, with a couple of other moms as helpers.

We then need to get the whole registration team from the club (with all the documentation and kit etc) to the satellite start as its 8km away from the registration area. If everything was around the club it would be fine to run registration longer, but we cant because of logistics.

Its just the way it is for this round dude.

Also remember that timing is a BIG logistics issue - the timing guys need an hour AT LEAST to set up all the spreadsheets on ALL the laptops for the stage start and finish timers. And this can only be done once registration is closed.

Then we need to get these guys out onto stage BEFORE you start ...

So you need to give us time from Registration for us to get the timing guys activated and on stage ...

Its not like a classic or an XC where you have one finishline and the timing guys just sit there - we need to get the time keepers into the bundus to the stage starts and finishes and thats a schlep.

Its a mission i know and we (KZNMTB) are likely getting a top notch international timing system that will be easier to use, but this will not be here for this season im sure ... so we have to do it this way or we dont have a race.

Hey guys and girls

For those of you coming up/down to Karkloof from today onwards ...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ...

If you are going to ride outside of the actual event days - IE Friday! (Or Saturday for DH) ...

You NEED TO HAVE BEEN PAST THE CLUB AND PAID AND SIGNED THE INDEMNITY ...

I have just had the boss of the Karkoof Club call me saying that he has had a couple of guys over the last couple of days ducking the system to go and ride without paying ...

I dont know who these guys are, but they are being nobs and are jeopardizing us having events there in the future ...

So if you are coming down please do me a favour and go and pay before you ride ...

Thanks

Nige
