Advice needed on MTB for daughter

My 11 year daughter outgrew her 24" Titan and I am in the market for a new MTB for her. She is quite tall for her age. I am looking for a decent entry level bike 26" small frame and would appreciate any suggestions. Something like the Titan Calypso Comp looks like a good option.

Don't bother with a 26".

Look around for a lekker 650B.

Momsen have the LA651, very good bike, also the Scott Aspect, and I think even Titan go 650B.

BTW, my daughter is turning 8 in May and she can already pedal my wife's old 26" Avalanche around.

650B is more future proof IMHO.

Now hang on a bit.

I bought my wife the calypso comp a few years back. Its a great entry level 26r ladies bike.

Nothing wrong with 26 wheels.

I recently upgraded her to a Merida full carbon 26r and i love taking her bike for a spin.

(BTW before we get into too much of a wheel debate, i own 26, 650b and 29r bikes)

I think instead of spending more money on a more "future proof" AKA more in demand therefore more pricey, i would suggest buying a better 26r with better components.

Perhaps i could be so bold as to suggest a unisex frame rather than a full on ladies frame.

If she decides to upgrade later on and sell it, she will have a larger market to sell too.

buy a 26" Titan like you say. The girls love it cause it is easy to ride and with the lower pipe it is great for the fragile bits also... I sold my wife's small Titan 26 and it cost me massive amounts of money to get her comfortable again... she now rides a Giant Anthem X1. The Giant ladies bikes are also fantastic but not going to be as cheap.

Please expand on this profound pearl of wisdom...

650B is good also but its best to also not waste money if a 26er is cheaper. however if you can get a 650B then that should be cool also. And I don't think 26ers are going anywhere... there are too many billions of 26ers worldwide for the industry to lop off a limb like that... and some manufacturers still produce 26ers so 26ers will more than likely live forever.

If she is a serious professional rider then you need to match that... buy something that matches her skill with some room for growth. Also consider BB height of the bike. Some bikes have really high BBs (crank height) and on a short person where you going to drop the seat (so they can reach the ground) you don't want to squash them when they on the pedals and stretching for a toe on the ground....

My wife had that problem and the bikes we eliminated due to this was the Spez Stumpjumper and Giant Trance. Her Titan was realy good in this regard and like I said - we struggled to find the right fit after the Titan was that good. It never broke, complained or missed a beat...

Besides I upgraded the Titan to under 11Kg which is better than a lot of high end stuff and only reason I sold it was for a dual suspension...

^^ This +1

26 is a better price point/components/weight for the money.

Don't go with women specific frame, I have been told by good women riders that they are not worth it.

Yup - I payed R1500 for the Titan Calypso when I bought it and sold it with a few upgrades for R3500 (SLX derailleurs, better handlebar, Grips, Saddle and Pedals and brand new tyres)

Happy hunting!!!
