Posts being removed & moderators

I see posts are being removed very quickly around here. I thought I was losing my mind reading a post, laughing and upon returning back to the thread it was no longer there. So obviously the moderation has been stepped up around here which is fantastic although I feel a bit too late after letting things get to where they were last week.

With regards to the whole Lisa and Wil6 story all the members have been left in the dark and I don't think we will get to hear the outcome of the whole story. All this because of poor moderating

I think it is great the moderation has been increased but I doubt it will stay like this for ever and soon it will all be back to the Hubsa as we know it

I have to say, I haven't noticed this.

But in all honesty, this is my first time I am back since sides were chosen in that debate.

Over the top moderation me thinks.

We have stepped up moderation of late and the intention is to maintain this trend. Specifically there is much idle banter in useful threads which derails the conversation and dilutes, or even destroys any potential value.

With regards to the Lisa and Wil6 story, as has been said, there is no value in further speculation and mudslinging here. Once the matter is finalised we welcome either party posting an update here.

Was wondering why you so quite (first post of yours I've seen for awhile) :D

But ja its true, even some of my posts disappeared yesterday because they were OFF TOPIC which is verboten according to rule 12.3 ( c )

EDIT: and you have to be quick / get it right first time... because after a few minutes you cannot edit old posts

I don't care much for the other thread mentioned here but the idle banter is kind of what makes the hub what it is... I understand the need for moderation against posts that derail a thread or cause harm, but harmless banter?

In certain contexts the harmless banter is actually harmful They harm the chances of getting useful feedback. It creates noise which dilutes the value of feedback given in between. So many Q&A and similar threads are dragged far off topic as a result of innocent chit chat.

These are conversations which could often take place offline, via PM or even in their own thread. In an area like Chit Chat where threads are often varied by nature and banter is even the intent of the discussion we wouldn't take such a hard line, but if we want to create an environment for constructive cycling discussion and knowledge sharing (a primary driver behind The Hub's existence) we do have to clamp down on some of the idle banter.

We don't want it to become an overly sterile place. The lightheartedness and community culture is part of what makes it unique, however there is a time and place for banter and chit-chat.

I totally understand that view point but over moderation can lead to an overly sterile place quickly as each moderator has his/her own view of what is too far off topic.

As I have had to moderate a forum before I speak from previous experience where one moderator thinks one thing and another a completely different thing...

Hi Matt

I don't think it would be speculation if Wil6 wanted to respond to Lisa with hard evidence. It is your responsibility to make sure the members can enjoy a fair deal when buying or selling something on this platform

I'm quite smaaking this new and rather chilled out place that thehub has become. Perhaps the mods are going a little over board but they'll find a happy medium sooner or later.

I'm sure admin will give Will6 a platform to say his thing once the situation has been finalized, the thread he started certainly put a fire of note under the sellers ass, which is all any buyer that's been screwed over is looking for by starting such a thread.

At first I thought it was a bit over the top with a couple of posts removed from the average speed thread, but looking in later there was a whole thread with advice instead of one page and then jokes. To me it seems there could be more pros than cons.
